View Full Version : Buy car in Canada with US dollar Buy car in Canada with US dollar aznpeter 04-10-2005, 09:36 PM With US dollars and the current exchange rate, what is the best way to purchase a vehicle in my situation: - do the currency exchange and purchase the car in Canada, or - purchase an US car and import it back to Canada, or - purchase car in Canada with US dollar? BTW the vehicle will most likely be a 99+ honda or acura at the price range of $13-20k US. Thanks in advance. MagicRat 04-10-2005, 10:16 PM The canadian dollar has been creeping higher and higher in value(compared with the US$) in the last couple of years, so your US$ do not go as far as they used to. That being said, lots of used car prices vary quite a bit by region. I woudl say shop around and compare. That being said, be careful. There are lots of Canadian spec cars that do not meet the US emissions or safety regulations, (which is one of the reasons why the Smart cars are being sold in Canada now, but the US version has not appeared yet. ) You may have difficulty licencing your Canadian spec car in the US. sirsmiley 04-11-2005, 06:00 AM youre serious? a 3 cylinder hunk of junk smart car (yes someone at work has one, i think theyre all computers and suck for anything but big city driving) cant even pass an emissions test? my kawasaki ninja has more horsepower than that thing i bet.... seriously though just hold onto your cash if you know youre gonna buy a new car, just wait for some good promo offers and when the canadian dollar drops a crapload go transfer it, however you lose quite a bit of money in transferring funds do you not? like 1-2%...so might be as good to go buy in the USA, plate it and register it and bring it back to canada for a bit and use it here then just drive it back to the US and keep on usin it Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com!
