Wont Idle.. Runs Greatslicshake 04-10-2005, 01:56 PM I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee Limited with the v8, the smaller one i think. Anyway, the battery is constantly getting discharged becasue the interior lights stay on. (allready have a post on this) Which is not a big deal becasue if drive it everyday it retains enough of a charge that it is fine. However, a few days ago hadn't droven it for around 24 hours and when i went out to start it, it turned over twice and then stoped. so I put the chrager on it and went inside, when i came back 6 hours later it was fine and started right but it died, so i started it up again, and kept the rpm's at around 2500 for 5 seconds and let g of the accelerator, and it died. So i took the battery off, and the same thing happened. I must note that it ran perfectly and that as long as there is a little throtle being apllied it runs like a champ. Do i have a fuel pump/line problem? Or something more serious? Thanks for any asstiance dksob81 04-10-2005, 02:13 PM it's the only V8 for your model (5.2L). Clean and tighten the battery Terminals and posts. then figure out why the lights are staying on, check all the door switches I just recently had this problem with my passenger front switch was not making full contact with the door when it was closed causing my lights to stay on. Just start with the Drivers door - open the door and push the switch in all the way, hold it for about a minute or until the lights go out, if they go out then thats the problem switch if not it's one of the other doors. slicshake 04-10-2005, 02:33 PM <note> i just went out and jumped it. It did the same thing. So i slowly let the rm's drop below 1000, and then let it go a little further and then took my foot off the acclerator and it was ideling. So i let it sit like that for a little while, and then put it into reverse backed up, then into drive and went foreward, then punched it a little and it died. So i started it back up w/o the jumper's, and just let it idle normally and it died, so i strted it again and slowly let it drop off and it was fine. I then drove for about a mile, went to turn around and it died in reverse. Started it back up just fine no need to play with the acceleraor, drove it home and it "seems" fine. I would also like to note that whever it starts to die, the altimeter (for the battery) will flucate going alsmost to 9 but once hit the gas it goes right back to were it was in the middle. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
