Hi, need advice on maintenance and cost..NTAmuro 04-09-2005, 01:20 AM Hi, I am new here, been reading many old threads trying to gather info on how much maintenance cost would be at dealership after being told today that I will need to shell out about $1350 for a major maintenance/repair which includes major service($400), timing belt and tensioner replacement($900), and they would also look at my transmission since she said it was slipping badly. I have a 99' passat v6. It has around 62500 mi. Major Service includes($400): Oil change, Oil filter replacement, Top off all fluids, Rotate and balance tires and tire pressure, Lubricate hinges, Replace spark plugs, Replace air filter, Change brake fluids, Check automatic transmission fluid level, Adjust drive belt, Complete basic vehicle visual inspection of: Steeling/Suspension, Brake system, Engine/Transmission, Exhaust, Lamps and Wiper blades. I am wondering if that is the typical cost for a maintenance and if the major service is nessesary. Never done a major service before, only been to oil change for about every 3 month. I am also wondering what other things I should tell the mechanic to check since they will be doing a lot of things during this maintenance. Looking from other thread, I should also ask them to check: Water pump to see if it is leaking. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. veedubmechanic 04-11-2005, 09:29 PM You should have your fuel filter replaced for sure! Transmission issue, have the transmission filter and fluid changed. Have the w-pump replaced with the t-belt. It will leak eventaully and cheaper to have it replaced when the tech is already there. Have them check for cam seal leaks. IF you are 1st owner then they are covered under warranty untill 100k miles. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
