Opinions on K&N Intake

Hey i am a new owner of a tacoma prerunner 1998 v6, i commute alot here in california and was wondering about getting a K&N intake system. Ive looked around n gotten almost 60% negs and 40% pos feedback or maybe 50/50. Is KN all that bad? i know about the dirt filtration problems n such but have also heard good things, i am a huge baja fan though only plan to go once or twice in a year. mainly truck for commute n hauling my motobike around. Good buy? pros n cons? would appreciate n e help.

Do the deckplate mod with a TRD(AFE) or Amsoil filter. They are superior in quality compared to the K&N.

I have never seen any credible report of measured power increase with one of their products.
