88 f150 oil pan removalPickuptruck 04-07-2005, 01:17 AM I have an 88 Ford F-150 300 straight six with 2wd. My oil pump went and I am having difficult time trying to remove the oil pan. I jacked the motor up as far as it could go until the ECG valve on top of the engine hit the top of the fire wall. (Right by the washer blade linkage) I can't jack it up any higher and I don't have enough clearance to remove the oil pan. The pan is still hitting the cross member and the bottom of the transmission when I try to take it out. All I need is about another half of an inch. I want to avoid removing the ECG valve if I can because I fear I might strip it because it has never been removed. (Looks very old also and there are 3 bolts holding it in place) Anybody have a solution this problem? Please help highboy73 04-07-2005, 02:08 AM jack up the trans jcougar88 05-16-2005, 11:28 PM the pan is probably hitting the oil pump screen. you will have to remove the screen to get the oil pan out. good luck, and be careful. wafrederick 05-18-2005, 06:00 PM Remove the EGR valve, gives you more clearance to get the oil pan out.Inspect the oil pan also,Ford oil pans do rust out( a common problem). There is one way to tell,it has JB Weld on the oil pan.Replace the oil pan if it is rusted out,you do not want to do it a second time.I did one ford van with a 351 with a bad oil pump once, the oil pan was rusted out and the oil pan was replaced also with the oil pump. jeep mechanic 06-05-2005, 02:46 AM jack engine up as far as you can,cut wood blocks to place under motormounts, drop oil pan, and remove oil pick up tube let it fall into oil pan, and rotate crank so pan will clear counter weights on crank shaft and slide pan out. been there done that got the tshirt! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
