spark knock????

i have a strange problem with my 84 300 z
i cant retard my timing enough to get any sustained power without a solid knock occuring??
not too solid but bad enough to frown at
i didnt have the problem before i toasted the head gasket (reoplaced gasket and every thing seems to be fine (or atleast its smooth feeling no chuging or anything
i cant set my timing past 7degrees btdc+,- if i hit 15 btdc i get a knock and i cant even get the stock 20btdc
before i poped the gasket i was way back at like 30-35btdc????
i dont understand did something happen when the gasket popped and i have to try and ween her back??
heck the funny part is shell give a biut of cars a run for the money even at the silly 7 degreesbtdc
could i have removed a bit of varnish when i cleaned (oh so presiusly cleaned my heads???

or could this be the evil work of an intruder i hope i didnt get a visit from the sugar fairy
well if i find out somehow through the grape vine or investigation of the tank these people got a few nice expensive cars that arent well hidden you know rare uwards of 100,000 between the 2 of them hmmm ahh what a shame no not really i love cars too much iod just knock a couple teeth out sorta deal sory sorry sorry

ok well anyway 7 degrees and canty retard any more any suggestions?? yes i started at 93 octane and am upwards of 100 octane or better with no luck????

any help would be appreciated and hey anybody wanna take a look im do for a vacation lol

also going to clean the tank this weekend but still would like any hints or suggestions

so sorry for the length and the complaining winny butt but any help would be appreciated and if any nut is willing to figure it out that does have experience with the z31 i wasnt kiding bout the vacation time coming up lol

sorry one miore thing if anybody knows of a reasonably price junk yard even that would be a delite for a vacation to me(am i a nuit or what lol)
also the junk yard (salvage lot) i would go too for a z parts not for a ford truck lol

sorry i almost forgot i think i curred my oil pressure problem changed back to my origanal oil and bam 12 psi after warmup and long idle and revs

yah that was a diff thread of yours u stated but since im already here what kind of oil r u running in ur car right now i have 5w30 right now cause of teh winter i switched it to sumthing thinner ?

hmm im still learning stuff on my z but off the top of my head start wit the stuff that controls teh timing on some cars you cant set the timing without pulling a plug like the spout connector on fords but i dont know on niisans maybe someone else with more knowledge in the Z can be more helpful sorry ..

i use a timing gun that just slips onto the #1 plug
and im using castrol syntec (was using redline) priorto head gasket replacement i was using the same syntec with great satisfaction

as for the timing at idle i set to 7 degrees then as i slowly increase throttle the timing slowly retadrd to about 15 degrees
if i throttle it quickly it drops to fast to say anything other than 0 to 7 degrees or even past tdc
any way of creating a lock out so timing is timing???
i could try that and probably have no satisfaction also i havent tried it under a load to see if the knock isnt just the whole vaccum thing

also prior to reassembly i drenched everything with lucas???
the rockers the rocker arm shafts the cams everything in the top.....
could that be trying to not let the oil pump through in these locations and i just gotta let it run through for a while ??? i think thats what im gonna try....
and the tank cleaning

also any suggestions on tank cleaning , im gonna try using the access on top of the tank
thuioght of getting a fuel cell buit not if i cant cure this sniffle sniffle my baby has head trauma

well good news is the knock seems to have ceased ( after a good day of diving and on the oil pressure note its srtill at 10 to 12 psi at idle even after hard driving )
yeah i sorta put it on the road and drove for like a half hour or so and decided try the timing and it seems only to knock under light throttle between 2700 and 3300 im wondering if its a slight defect in the comp since that is were it changes from all injectors firing simutaineusly and breacks down into 2 different groups (bank 1 and bank 2)
but i also wonder about the sugar fairy i almost wanna say so but ahhh and yeah i had to try it lol tgo anxuis not too lol shes legal again though even though i had tpo travel an extra hour and wait about an extra half hour do to it being a biger dmv
but any way shes back on the road

uhh anybody familiarv with rocker arm geometry??? arent these no adjustable rockers??? you just align and tigthen bolts right?
anyinput on that would be appreciated

you wanna tighten them down fully and then a 1/4 turn more..

thanks extreme how tight did you tighten? i used the suggested 16 ftlbs i also torqued then re torqued then rotated and retorqued only very very slight turning if any oiccuered during retorque but ill pop my rocker covers off and try that (no big deal bet i can do both sides off then back on in an hour and a half (due to 1 bolt(screw) that went in a litle snug and i didnt retapp so well see
