91 300z 2+2 or 88 supra turbo?

can anyone list the pros and cons of each? ive never driven the z, but im starting to consider jsut saving up a bit more and getting one instead of a supra. any opinions, suggestions or comments?

First off your not compearing apples for apples. The 2+2 Z is a N/A engine and the Supra is a Turbo car. I think and the track record shows that the Z out handles the Supra on a road course.
It really boil's down to which one you like. My opinion dont mean shit when it comes to pickin a car for you. Thats like pickin your wife...no can do.

what about speed wise? i cant find 0-60 numbers for the 300z. i know it comes down to what i like, but the onyl way id be able to drive a z is if i talk to someone whose selling one, and i dont want to tell them im goign to buy it just to drive it.

That too depends on who's Z is up for sale. If you look at Z's like mine you'll get different numbers than John Does Z, as almost all Z's are different except pure stock ones. Mine and ones like mine are a little quicker than the stock Z's.
I guess the question here is, are you going to use it for a drag car or a mountain road car?

well i have about 3500 saved up. thats enough for a good supra turbo if i look hard enough, and i have been looking. however, im considering saving up another 2500 and going for a Z. if i get the n/a Z i wouldnt mod it since i read a lot on the forums and it seems that itd take a lot of money for not much improvement. im just wondering stock, what would beat what. if i get the supra, eventually id put in a bigger turbo, but right now im considering stock times. id like to actually get in a Z if i can find someone who owns one to see how the interior of it is and get the feel of the car. i was going to get a 240sx and set it up for drifting, but its damn near impossible to find one around here. they are either overpriced or have real high miles, so now im considering other options. if im goign to end up paying a lot for a car, i might as well get something more high end like the Z or a supra.

Well to help you out, the MZ supra ( I belive it is) is a 80s model car, it looks it too. The Z32 300ZX is a great looking car, that on a whole handles better, and can make some VERY impressive numbers, more so if you go Twin Turbo swap like the rest of the bandwaggon junkies. Even without the TT swap you can make some decent numbers, although you are still VERY limited by the fact that it is a 3.0L V6. But with money, time and effort you can make a NA Z as powerful as any TT. (bold statement but it is true) And honestly I belive the NA Z (2-seater not the 2+2) can out run the MZ supra in the 1/4 mile and the 0-60 runs.

But it sounds like you are on a TIGHT budget and if thats the case, hunt for a nice looking Sentra, or 240SX. Becuase bother the MZ and the Z32 will eat your wallet in maintance.

I'm glad to see someone other than me knows for fact that a N/A can be made to be very fast.
Also Hodo how many times have you heard me push the screw type (Whipple type) superchargers? Everyone keeps saying that the turbos are more efficient and give more power, and I keep saying because of modern technology the screw type has passed the turbo in technology and is the best choice.
Ford's new Shelby GT500 has a Whipple as does the Nissan truck and a few European supercars. That doesn't mean that in the furure all that might change, but for now the screw rules.

I was staring at the size of that monster on the engine yesterday when it was in the shop, I wish I had brought the camera. I would have gotten some REALLY nice pictures. But I still dont want one.... I want to own EVERY model of Z since the begining, two of each, one stock, and one modified, and all Automatics. :D

Hodo all screw type supechargers have 2 rotors, thus being twin screw superchargers. Won't work with one. Takes 2 to tango.
Yea screw the rules, twin screw rules.
The GT500 Shelby uses a Whipple screw (twin) type supercharger, as does Nissan trucks uses the Eaton screw (twin) type supercharger

I can't stand Ford products. Just don't like 'em. No good reason, just something about 'em. BUT I would slap my grandma for a new GT. I whole heartedly admit, that is one hell of a car.

For the original question,...DUDE! Go test drive one. Test driving is meant to help you decide whether you want one or not! You don't go into a test drive obligated to do anything. Hell,... go to a dealership and do it. They should expect 9/10 test drivers to walk away. I test drove 2 G35's at my local dealership and bought one from a different dealership just 'cause I didn't like the guys I dealt with. Find out if you like it. And if you have to save up $2500 to be happier, bite it and be happier. If you have the means, the car you drive should make you happy. It may not be the $350,000 dream car you want someday, but it's probably an assload better than driving around the '84 caravan with the primer spots that you can't stand. In the end, you really can't compare the 2 until you drive them both.

yea i know it comes down to test driving ultimatley. i just realized that you can find a 300z n/a at a dealership, very stupid of me. i kept thinking test driving meant going to a private seller, and i didnt want to waste someones time just to drive there car. i cant drive stick that well though, and im afraid of stalling as i pull out of the dealership. how exactly do you stall, by not reving the engine enough as you release the clutch? i knwo if i rev too much it wont be smooth, but the car will keep moving.

just make sure you release the clutch slowly. when i test drive a car that i have never driven before, i usually rev and release the clutch slowly and then depress the clutch again real quick once it starts to engage...i do this several times just so i can get a feel for the friction point in the clutch.

Just remember that a dealer is supposed to be a professional. They may not be, and they probably really don't know all that much, but their main job is kissing your ass into buying a car, and if they've been around for any length of time, you won't be the first person who has stalled a manual with them riding shotgun. Not only that, but the car is unfalmiliar to you which means the clutch is unfamiliar to you. Even a long time stick driver stalls once in a while to to some sort of brain fart. I'm sure even Zgringo does it every scarce once in awhile. By all means let me know if I'm wrong ZG. Just remember that you are going to have to learn sometime. Hell, I just got my car today, never stalled on the test drive, and stalled it twice driving around town 5 hours ago. It happens. I'm not used to the car,...so what. I will be...Tee Hee!

i dont think zgringo stalls his Zs...i dont think any of his are manuals. correct me if im wrong...
