2001 Malibu Problems

Hello, I'm not very car savvy, so please bear with me.

My 2001 Malibu (Roughly 50K miles) has been acting up lately. The engine is aparantly being flooded with too much (something) and when it is in park, the engine revs higher than when in drive. This causes strain on the brakes and makes for a generally uncomfortable time behind the wheel. It just started happening within the last few weeks.

Another problem is that the engine is significantly louder once it reaches about 30 MPH. This also began starting around the same time (maybe shortly after) the above problem.

Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks in advance.

#1 - clean the throttle plate & add fuel injector cleaner
#2 - Don't believe those 100K mile spark plugs. You might need a set.
#3 - hows your cat & muffler?
