Upon a recent visit to the BMW factory in Spartanburg, SC I came across these models in their museum. They appear to be plastic and hand made, but I can't tell who makes them. Has anyone seen these before and do you know where I can find them?

They are DRAGON co. models, both are readily avialble on e-bay. THe quality is ...somewhat questionable though and th eproportions are generaly off.

Looks to be a wide range of scales there. Surely some of them are diecasts?

yeah, sorry, I meant the two larger white racing 3 series models are 1/25 scale Dragon co. models.

I live near the BMW museum and have been there many times. Their gift shop has a number of BMW diecasts in several scales, made by Herpa, Schuco, and other companies.

Both of those are Dragon. They are average at best, proportions aren't too bad. The number 9 car comes pre-painted and semi decalled, you can get it on eBay for about $20.00. Quality is ok.

Hasegawa also made some BMW's, JTCC versions I think. They are better than the Dragons.

I was refering to the 2 "big" white ones, all the others are diecast, I have a picture of the whole model display if you want to see it.
Despite the apparent quality issues, they do look quite nice in the display case. I might have to make myself one, it'll look good next to my JTCC Accord.

Dragon made the Tim Harvey BTCC 1992 Winning BMW. The Listerine one, seems to be one of the harder ones to find too. Hasegawa did a couple, I knw there was the 1994 Team Schnitzer driven by "Leopold Prinz von Bayern" (Stash livery) and the other one driven by Joachim Winkelhock. Revell actually made one too, a copy of the Aussie Touring Car driven by von Bayern as well. I have never seen it in the flesh though, I am told it is the Red Bull livery one in Blue I believe.

If anybody has the Hasegawa JTCC Autech version BMW please let me know, I am looking for that one.

I know these two 1/24 cars as Revell models. They are pre painted and quite easy to assemble.

Ebay seems to be the only place I can find any Dragon kits, but right now they are all prepainted M3 CSL's. I saw Hasegawas touring car on there, but the seller seemed kinda shady...

Gotta say, I have several Dragon 1/24 E36 BMWs, and the quality of the kits is fine- they're the same molds as used by Revell Germany and Hasegawa. The dimensions of the M3 kits match my 1:1 rather well. The decals for the '94 'Dream Team' kit are CRAP, both in quality and in accuracy (the photo on the box top is of the actual car, yet several of the sponsor markings are changed on the decal sheet:disappoin- I'm guessing licensing problems). Otherwise, they're fine builds.

I have built both kits and they do lack abit of detail but on a whole they are a pretty good model to build.
