Here's what was happening. Everytime I started the car up after not driving it a while, the entire vehicle would shake and vibrate. I popped open the hood, the entire engine is just rocking left and right, instead of the normal constant sound, its going "whoom, whoom, whoom" and the fan is blowing extremely loud. If I try to drive it like that, when I push the gas from a standstill, it revs up like its in neutral and then jerks into 1st (Automatic transmission). When the transmission switches to second, it jerks. After about 5-10 minutes of driving though, the engine stops, car stops shaking, and it drives normal and fine.

I took it to a Chevy Dealer, and I was informed my computer was giving multiple misfire codes and that I had a bad fuel pressure regulator. Would this be whats causing that?

Yip, the transmission is computer controlled.

Ever done a FULL tuneup?

Nah, I just bought the car two weeks ago.

The Chevy dealer I took it to tried to tell me the fuel pressure regulator was bad, the fuel injectors needed cleaning, and 3 oxygen sensors were bad.

I wasn't aware cars HAD 3 oxygen sensors.

it is possible to have 3 oxygen sensors(one on each manifold and one after catalytic converter) the purpose for the sensor after the converter is so the computer can tell if the ctalytic converter is working properly, but the only thing it willl help with is telling you if the thing has clogged up, oooops there i go ranting again , *mumble* damn epa. anyway as far as running crapy do you have to jump start it after it has been sitting? if so, have a look at my post in the crazy problem 96 blazer (or something like that) thread where i posted about dead batteries in blazers.

No, the battery is fine. I can put the key in, turn it and have full lights, radio, power everything. It just won't turn over.

you mean the starter won't engage?

The engine just sits there "crankcrankcrank" like its chugging for fuel.

well a quick way to tell if the pressure regulator is the problem is to test the fuel pressure at the schrader valve, i'm thinkinj it should be around 35psi, i don't know the exact pressure for that app.

I havn't got any kind of tools to check it.

Besides, its at the Ford dealership I bought it from :P The dealer called me to do his little check up, see how the car was doing. I told him the problems, he said to bring it in, his mechanics would look at it.

He's gonna try to get it fixed free of charge for me.

thats cool if they'll fix it free but don't let them screw you and keep checking in with us if you can. We have some good bull s*** sensors here.

Elk Valley Ford doesn't know whats wrong with it yet, since the Chevy dealer cleared the error codes. They have to wait until tomorrow before they can start it up and generate the problems.

Pressure should be:

KEY ON ENGINE OFF;

60 - 66psi while pump is running
55 - 60psi after pump shuts off, this pressure should hold steady and not drop.

KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING;

The pressure should drop 3 - 10psi

Also, be aware that the 97s have ignition switches that are prone to failure. They can cause anything controled by the switch to malfunction. This can include no start, random dieing, transmission problems, dash lights to come on and off, and several other problems.

:) Just a little. Don't feel bad most mechanics don't know that it is suppose to be that high.

:lol: I'm just a weekend wrencher like most of the other regulars in here. Although I have had quite a bit of experience working on other cars...most of what I know about Blazers has come from cruising this forum.
