2001 3.5 intrigue oil filter changingshoctrtmnt 03-28-2005, 11:34 PM ok so today i tried to change my oil filter, i usually take it to jiffy lube, anyways i cant figure out how to get to the oil filter can someone help me out here.... thanks rich kimbo99 03-29-2005, 01:34 AM I use a Flotool #4 Super Graphite filter wrench purchased at my local auto parts store (Kragen) for $6, works great, attaches to a 3/8” drive ratchet. Pennzoil makes a similar metal filter wrench. I assume it is also #4 size (which would make it p/n 19804). FYI, you can remove the filter without draining the oil first. Also, factory spec for oil filter tightening is 18 ft-lb, and oil drain plug is 15 ft-lb. Burnout524 03-29-2005, 04:24 PM Yeah, that's a great attachment to have; we've got one for the Intrepid. I wish the Olds dealer knew those torque ratings; the last time my oil was done, I had to get a new drain plug since the mechanic tightened it so much that it stripped the threads on the plug. :shakehead kmohr3 04-24-2005, 10:09 AM I know what you mean, I have a major trust issue letting anyone work on my cars. I went out and bought a new inch/lb torque wrench for working on my aluminum 3.5L engine. I torque everything, including the oil pan drain plug and filter. By the way, my car had the improper drain plug in it. The proper one from GM (88891787), has a recess under the head of the bolt to accomodate the rubber seal (3536966). I bought the GM filter wrench (Kent-Moore J-29142) or SPX is the name on the invoice. Let me know if you want the phone numbers to place an order. Dan "The Man" 11-07-2005, 03:43 PM It sounds like you know where to find the oil filter on the Intrigue (I have a 2000 V6)...can you help be locate it? Thanks! kmohr3 11-07-2005, 09:51 PM on the 3.5 liter it is a cartridge type filter and is in the oil pan. The cover for it is on the bottom of the engine oil pan vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
