Buying SVTJimR 03-28-2005, 01:30 PM ok i have found a 1998 SVT its only $2,500, but it has a number of problems. 1. bad 1st and 2nd gear 3rd and 4th ok but could be better. 2. some eletrical probs 3. some body damage 4. hesitates when i get on the gas. ect. should i buy it or should i let it go. i dont have tons of $ to spend on it (after i buy it) less then $2k beyondloadedSE 03-28-2005, 02:14 PM I wouldnt. Tranny work alone would probably run you about $700-1000+ assuming you could pull the transmission on your own. The engine does need to dropped for the trans to be removed. Not sure what your electrical problems entail, but all new main wiring harnesses under the rood would run you about $1300 + labor. Hesitation is probably due to a fuel filter. Too many headaches imho. pre98zetec 03-28-2005, 03:36 PM how many miles are on your 96? you could supercharge the car you have now. Jason43 03-29-2005, 09:53 AM Sounds like it would be more work that whats its worth. JimR 03-29-2005, 11:32 AM my 96 has 82,000 miles guess ill keep looking for another SVT Jason43 03-29-2005, 12:17 PM If you were going to buy this one for $2500 and spend another $2000, you could probably find a decent, non-beaten to hell 98 for around $4-5k. JimR 03-29-2005, 01:38 PM Found another for $3,500. took it for a test drive trans is great. everything works. BUT the hood dont look to great, the hood looks like someone was dropped on it more then once. im thinking about buying this one. what do u think? beyondloadedSE 03-29-2005, 04:00 PM Found another for $3,500. took it for a test drive trans is great. everything works. BUT the hood dont look to great, the hood looks like someone was dropped on it more then once. im thinking about buying this one. what do u think? sounds like it might be a good deal. Might be cheaper to just replace the hood with a carbon fiber one. http://www.fototime.com/{C9858108-2356-451E-AD09-098410124843}/picture.JPG theres also carbon fiber hoods available in the oem shape. JimR 03-30-2005, 09:56 AM i found out that the svt i was looking at was in a flood. so i guess ill have to stick with the 96 i have. pre98zetec 03-30-2005, 10:27 AM why not buy a post-98 SE and get an SVT body kit.. And get a few performance mods?.. Almost as fast.. less the insurance. JimR 03-31-2005, 10:18 AM ok i guess that is something to think about. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
