2000 Honda Civic SOHC to DOHC swapSlick69 03-26-2005, 10:39 PM My daughter owns a 2000 Honda Civic with the SOHC VTEC and the motor is blown in it, I have a chance to pick up a complete 2000 Civic SI with the DOHC VTEC (the whole car). My question is, what does it take to swap the engine out? Civic_D16Y5 03-27-2005, 01:22 AM u need a good ratchet set, and good machanic, unless u know how to already, but if you did you wouldnt be posting here, plus ull need the tranny of the si, or another b series engine Slick69 03-27-2005, 10:14 AM I know how to wrench, I have build Harleys, cars and boats, but not a import. I guess what I should of asked is, does the axles need to change, does the wiring harness need to be swaped out and other things like that, or does it just make a clean switch over (motor to motor)? Geeko 03-27-2005, 01:37 PM I've not done that swap (yet, at least) so I can't be 100% sure of everything you'd need, but I know you'll need the ECU out of the DOHC car, and possibly the harness. I would move the DOHC's transmission over too, just to be sure- the same transaxles should work. You may also need the hood from the DOHC car, because I THINK the DOHC engine requires higher clearance (not too sure on that). Assuming that the transmission type is the same (manual/automatic), it should be a rather straightforward swap. Honda is known for making parts interchangable easily (this is not only nice for us, it's a cost-saving strategy for Honda, so I don't know why other manufacturers don't do this too). You might want to pick up a couple of books off of Amazon or a local bookstore, there is lots of information in print about modding Hondas. Good Luck! Civic_D16Y5 03-27-2005, 11:23 PM the hoood????? i think the stock hood will be fine, and does anyone have a straight answer for if the transaxle nees to be replaced? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
