I have I 98 3ltr that behaved very strange yesterday. It has 198,000 km and the van has been pretty reliable.
While coming to a stop after lenghty drive in the country, I noticed my speedo wasn't showing any speed as I decelerated. As I pulled away from the stop sign, I could feel the tranny slipping big time. I manually shifted out of OD/Drive mode and all seems okay. It starts and shifts from 1st to 2nd nice, and then onto 3rd well also.

I have read some horror stories about transmission issues...but my fluid is as pink as a possums belly. The trans apears to working okay and hasn't slipped since...but someting definitely happend. I use this truck for working and travel alot in it. I would hate to cause any further damage and increase any repair bill.

Any ideas where I should start to look.

Problem sounds electronic . since problem is in both tranny and speedo.
I would suspect speed sensor. Test for codes 1st ., and go from there.
