All the other makes have pumps that cost $50.00. Who engineered this one?

GM has been on a crash course to eliminate and reduce parts in their cars. So instead of six different parts to a fuel pump assembly, you get one part, the whole assembly. All six prices rolled into one too. Main reason my old truck with 201,000 miles on it hasn't been replaced. I'll keep it running as long as possible.

its cool that thats all it took to fix your fuel pump issues but you have to remember that fuses are designed to blow if there is a problem and replacing the fuse does not fix the reason that that fuse blew in the first place.

No, fuse is okay. It fire up 20 minutes later.I think it's intermittent, may be on its way out.[this can be checked by the amount of on-current draw] I'm an electrical technician, the fuse was the first thing I checked before calling the tow-truck

Any who.. the fuel tank leaks as well. Maybe it'll have an acidental fire.

What year malibu do you have and is this the first time your fuel pump as gone out? I have to get a fuel pump and the lowest I've gotten is $128.

1998 Malibu LS first time failure.

Fuel pump wouldn't spin up to start the car. Car started an hour later, so we drove it home and parked it. I also have a tank that leaks when filled with more than 5 gallons of gas. [which probably doesn't help the cool the pump assembly]. Eventually I'll have my mechanic look at it. I was going to attemp the job myself, but tank replacement isn't worth the risk [fire and effort] for a DYI. Plus there is the aspect of tank disposal.

If you got a line on a pump for $128.00 I'd jump on it.

your gas tank leaks? isn't there a recall or something about that? i've replaced my fuel pump and now i need another. that's when i had almost 100,000 miles. now i'm reaching 200,000 miles and my fuel pump is going back. it seems that they are set to go back around that. how many miles do you have on yours?

If there is a recall on the tank, I haven't been notified....let me know. 101,000 miles

i don't exactly remember but there was a recall posted online that said something about gas tanks. if i can find it i will post it. i guess fuel pumps are designed to go out at around 100,000 miles.
