I found an ass load of pics at this site:
http://info.detnews.com/photogalleries/autoshowgallery.cfm?action=2006models

Here they are:

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 (6.1L V8, 415hp):

Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS (I don't know the specs):

Based on pics alone...the Blazer...better lines and sexier

The Jeep, at least I know that I can take it off road without getting stuck on a croquet lawn.

The Trailblazer will have the LS2 6.0L V8 Corvette motor, 390hp, 400lb-ft.
I'll take the Trailblazer in this comparo. The regular GC looks good, this one looks hideous with that ridiculous front bumper.
One last thing, the Jeep isn't going off-road anytime soon, it was made to stay inside the lines and curbs.

Meh, just take off the bodykit and get some proper tyres and it'll be just as good as any Grand Cherokee in the mud.

Unless I went to sleep and woke up one day to find that Jeep had started building on car-based chassis' with AWD (Or worse RWD) and flimsy (I would say independent, but given how competent the Touareg is with Independent suspension....) comfort-tuned suspension, highly unlikely, sorry.

When I looked at the thread name I thought that you were talking about pretend models that you envisioned...how wrong I was...

Purely by looks I would take the trailblazer, it looks a ton more rugged in the SS form...

I would like to know tho, what transmission are they gonna put in it? The Trailblazer never came in a manual, would they throw one in? if not will it use the same 4-speed auto normally used? they couldn't...

Last question...Is it me or is GM throwing their LS2 engine in alot more cars now? (CTS-V, SSR, GTO, Trailblazer SS, Impala SS?)

Well, it has full-time four wheel drive, it's been lowered one inch, it has esp, and it has independent front suspension.

The CTS-V has the LS6, and the new Impala SS will have the LS4 5.3L

Sorry but the Jeep has the Trail Blazer beat in every category here. Take off the wheels and tires and put some descent off-roads tires on there and it will be just as good as the regular Grand Cherokee off-road, like Jimster said, which is far better than the Trail Blazer. Also, the Jeep has a 426 HP 6.1L Hemi, bye bye Trail Blazer.

I also think it looks far better. No question, give me the Jeep!

Wow, I didn't see that coming from the Chrysler guy. Really shocking. :)

BTW, I saw a black GTC down the street from me today. It's auto, though.

I wish it had 426hp. But it is 415hp @ 6,200 rpm.

Aww, too bad, that means it was only a Turbo I. Anyhow, I'm not completely biased. I just truly think that the Jeep is the better pick. If the SS were superior I would admit it.

If you want to believe that go ahead. They did the same damn thing when they put the 5.7L Hemi in the Jeep. They are just underrating it for some reason.

I was just poking fun at ya. I agree that the Jeep is the superior off-roader. The Trailblazer is a family car with three rows of seats and a lift job.

Jeep, no quesiton. Reasons already mentioned by Jimster and Polygon.

I forgot to mention I also would take the Jeep. I think it just looks better. The TrailbBazer looks too much like the normal one.

Yeah... but you have to admit, the Trailblazer looks pretty sweet almost as it is... the SS adds a nice beefier look to it.. Not to mention it has more balls than the SS Silverado does. (Stupid GM!) I'd take it over the Jeep, respectfully.

The Jeep is almost too overdone if you ask me.. but as a GM guy I will grudgingly admit that it does look, and the HP sounds pretty great..(Just a bit overdone) It would be nice to see actual performance numbers and prices though. Good comparison.

What is the point of these trucks?

porscheguy9999
04-02-2005, 11:15 AM
The point is to show they can make an SUV have the performance of a higher-end sprots coupe. Mainly to prove how powerful they can make the engines. Is it not just amazing that the Jeep SRT-8 can out run a new Boxster S (987 model) 0-60? And the 987 Boxster has a similar top speed? That can make anyone think "performance" and "SUV" go together.

lamehonda
04-02-2005, 01:19 PM
Yeah, but now everyone will be buying these "deathtraps". Just think about when these things get handed down to teenagers, there will be hell to pay. I wonder how good either of these "trucks" will really be offroad anyway.

That jeep will probably scrape the front end when you are pulling out of the driveway.

If going fast is all people care about, the suvs are ok. But if they want to have fun with the car, it needs to be able to go around a corner.

They make it cause it will sell, it's a business afterall, as long as it will sell, and bring in publicity, it's gold for GM and DC.

American Manufacturers are really irresponsible when it comes to safety.

If people would demand more from them, maybe things would change.

Ex. try buying tires for a Honda Accord sometime. Almost everything in my size is speed rated to 112 mph for the taurus etc. So they cannot mount them on the car. Its not like the speed limits in Japan are higher than they are here.

porscheguy9999
04-02-2005, 10:08 PM
What do you mean they can't be mounted?

lamehonda
04-03-2005, 10:52 AM
The tire dealer won't install a tire that is not speed rated as high as the top speed of the car from the factory.

I get it. I never thought about that...
