Grinding Noise in 97 HONDA Civic97HONDAGUPT 03-23-2005, 10:12 AM My 97 HONDA Civic LX (110K) start giving me grinding noise for the last 3/4 days. This grinding noise increases with increasing pressure on gas paddle. But when car is idle there is very little grining noise. Previously a rattling noise was comming occasionally and dealer told me that it's not a major. This ralling noise is still there. What would be the possible problem? As this grinding noise become very loud when I hit the gas, I need to fix this problem. By listening to the noise, I feel that there is lot of pressure on Engine and engine is making this noise. But RPM is OK and noise is either comming from the bottom or back of the car. I think it's not a engine problem otherwise this noise should have come from front. Is this due to problem in Exahust? How much it'll cost to fix or replace exahust? Any help is really appriciated. honda_luvr_2000 03-24-2005, 02:39 PM put the car in neutral and try pressing the gas. if u still get the grinding noise then it is the engine. the rattling is probably a loose heat shield on the exhuast system sumwhere. edit: another thing i thought of, at 110k miles, have the timing belt and water pump been changed? if not, they need to be. jasonb01 02-10-2006, 10:32 PM My 97 HONDA Civic LX (110K) start giving me grinding noise for the last 3/4 days. Mine is doing the exact same thing. batman19 02-13-2006, 01:07 PM Hey man i have the same noise last week........ Does your come on and off? I bet it is ur exhuast head shield on ur front exhaust. Check this..... Right after the 90 degree turn from ur Cat, u will see a upper and lower shield(two pics of metal bolted together), i bet u one of those bolt hole is rusted. What happen is the pic of metal hitting back and for on the exhuast to make that grinding nose. You best test is have ur car idle, and get a glove to hold the shield to see if the noise would go away. if it does, then that is. i would just take them off, noise will go away...... or u can get some heat tape to tape it up. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
