I have a 2001 Accent and I keep hearing a grinding from the brakes and I can feel it through the pedal....so I checked the brakes and the pads and drums are almost brand new, rotors look great, only happens while braking so it wouldn't be the bearings. It only happens some of the time though. I will go for a while without it grinding and then it'll just start doing it, then I took it in to a shop and they took it for a drive and it didn't do it, then when I left and was almost home it did it again. I just can't figure it out.

I have a 2000 and I just replaced the rear brake drums which were making a noise. The rear pads are indestructable but the drums needed to be replaced. $200. It sounds like you've checked these possibilities so I will also tell you that it is my experience that when the car sits for a day or two and it is rainy or snowy and wet out I get a noise from the brakes the first few stops I make. I think it is just a light coat of rust that develops but goes away and there is no problem braking. Anway - hope that's all it turns out to be. All the best.
