I asked this question last year, but I cannot seem to find the thread. I have a 2000 Jetta VR6 with 96,000 miles. My maint. book reccomends replacing the "Timing Belt" at 105,000 miles. However, two dealers and a private mechanic have said the VR6 has a "timing chain", not a belt, that does not need replacement. I know the 1.8T and the 2.8/3.0 Audi V6 in the Passat have belts, but what is the story on the VR6?

Thanks.

Vr6 has 2 timing chains on the driver side of the engine. THey usually need replacement arround 150-180k miles with normal driving and normal oil changes.
