Hey! I'm in the middle of rebuilding an 82 GT 5.0 and am wondering what the differance is between solid, hydrolic and roller lifters? Which are better? I am thinking of going to roller rockers, will I need to change lifters??

Thanks

Roller rockers realy have nothing to do with the lifters.

Lifters ride on the cam. If you plan on turning your engine over 6500rpms then you will need a solid. If not its a complete waste of money. My Boss 302 has a solid, but the damn thing does not even start to make power until 5000rmps.

Hyrdo lifters, use oil pressure to basically to pumped up lifter that why if you ever heard a car with low oil pressure you can hear tapping, because the lifters are not pumped up all the way. The main difference is only about 5-12hp gain depending what your cam and the engine is set up for, but it will cost about 3-4 times as much. Hope this helps.

Sorry, to anwser you question, you do not need to change your lifters to change over to RR. Just make sure you set it up right, or BYE BYE engine.
