Question about keyless entry remote

I bought a remote off Ebay a few days ago. I read that it would work on my 2k JGC. I took it into the dealership to get it programmed and it would not program. I then noticed that it had a different part # on the back than the one that was working. They look just alike except my original is black and this one is gray. The part numbers are 1 digit off. Do the part #'s have to be the same to work?

the only difference should be the color.on jeeps with memory seats the black one is for #1 driver and the gray is for #2.it corresponds to the buttons on the drivers door.there is a black button marked #1 and a gray button marked #2.your dealer should have a tester that can tell if the remote actually works or not.are you sure the batterys are good?also sometimes the contact inside gets bent and the remote doesn't work.it's the one by the batterys that touches the circuit board when you put the 2 halves of the remote together

remote. He asked me, "Did you just buy this here?" I said "No, I got it on Ebay". It seemed to really upset the guy. He said, "well there you go. You probably bought a bad remote". I had just purchased $65.00 worth of stuff from the parts dept. at the dealership so the guy should have helped me out more. I'll check the battery.
