95 corsica 3.1 to 89 z24 2.8 engine swap helpDr. Frankenstein 03-19-2005, 09:44 AM Hello everybody! I need to know if I can take a 1995 3.1 and bolt her in to my 89 cav z24. I much would preffer for a supercharged 3.8 but money I dont have. I have a good 3.1 in a wrecked 95 corsica and a blown head gasket on my 89 2.8 z24. Will this 1995 3.1 work for sure in the 89 2.8 engine bay? Are any parts interchangeable between these motors such as the heads? Are the mounts different? I am trying to save myself from spending to much time on this. If its not goin to fit then I will just fix the damn head gasket on the 2.8. However I have been told it will work! I need some input here and appreciate any replies. These forums are awesome for us DIY guys! Thanks to all who take time to post. The Doctor is in. TunerAdept 03-20-2005, 02:29 AM the only difference between the 2.8 and the 3.1 is that the 3.1 has a tad bit more stroke and slightly lower compression. aside from that they are the same above the crank. bolt in i dunno, but i put a 3.1 in my 1989 celebrity back in the day, bolted right up wafrederick 03-21-2005, 10:16 AM It will not fit,Call any auto salvage yards and some auto salvage yards should have an interchange book called a hollander. The wiring is differant,a whole lot differant.Find a 3.1 with a square top.that 95 3.1 has a rounded top.If you call any auto salvage yards, the answer will be no. I have asked several other mechanics that tell me that it will fit and I hope it does for that matter. I have even been told that just because the book says it wont work that it still may with a couple of mods. As long as the mounting bosses on the block are the same, all else is trivial to me. I have both wiring harnesses to work with all sensors from both engines along with the ecms. I need somebody to tell me that its been done before and fill me in on the process they incurred while doing the transplant. Firguring out the wiring is a sunday brunch for me as I am an electrician by trade and electronics nut in my spare time. I just dont work on other peoples vehicles anymore as a mechanic so as not to get my hands to dirty he he hea. Anybody else have any experiance with this?
