2001 Manual Dodge RAM 1500crazys182003 03-17-2005, 04:30 PM I am looking at buying a Dodge RAm and there is a 2001 RAM I could get for 12,500. It has been listed in carfax as a lease vehicle before that got sold at auction afterwards. Is there anything I should weatch out for when I look at the vehicle? It is the short bed 4wd standard cab model. I looked on msn autos to get a general idea and it said there wasn't anything that was really bad with that model. I think msn is decent b/c I checked out other vehicles that I have owned and what was mentioned there was what ended up going bad for me. But I figure I'll check with you ram owners as to what to watch out for. any ideas will help me out a lot thanx. Oh it is the 5.2L V8. scoutinkeith 03-18-2005, 04:35 PM is it a 2x4 or 4x4? how many miles on it? if it's a 4x4, you'll want to check the front end. the track bars on these trucks (4x4s)are known to wear out, but they can be replaced relatively cheep. oh, and one other thing that you may want to do, if you test drive it, get on it a couple times. both the 5.2, and the 5.9 engines have a 2 piece intake manifold, and they sometime develop a leak in the gasket between the two pieces. the gasket is often called "belly pan" or "plenum" gasket. if it has a leak in that gasket, when you get on it (like 2500 RPM and up) you'll more than likely hear a pinging (spark knock) sound. if you're mechanically inclined, it can be fixed for around $40 and a day of your time, but if you have to take it to a dealership, they'll charge around $400. that's all I can think of at the moment, if I think of anything else I'll post it here. good luck, overall, these are really great trucks, I've been very happy with the one that I have. again, good luck, Keith crazys182003 03-20-2005, 07:36 PM It is a 4x4 with 49K Miles on it. Found out it used to be a leased vehicle but when the lease ran out it was auctioned off and ended up at the dealer I found it. Test drove it on fri and sat. Didn't seem to have any issues that I found. I am somewhat mechanically inclined so now that I have bought the RAM I will be joining this forum and stop monitoring the blazer forum. Thanx for your input. It appears as though this vehicle will definately suit my style better than a chevy blazer could. scoutinkeith 03-21-2005, 08:22 AM good to hear that everything went well. I also bought my truck used, it had right at 50K miles on it, and now has almost 100K, and it's been a great truck so far. the only things other than regular maintenance that I've had to do are, new tires, track bar, and plenum gasket. good luck with you new truck, Keith fredjacksonsan 03-23-2005, 10:03 AM Glad to have a convert from those Chebbie boys. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
