I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500, and just put a used engine into it. A few days later my check engine light came on. I'm pretty sure I know how to read the codes by the flashing check engine light, but I don't know what they mean and can't find it anywhere. The code that I recieved was 1-23-1-56. Can you help a girl out?

I also have a 97 Ram 1500 and just bought a code scanner from Discount Auto stores($76.00). The code book I got with it says that a 0123 code is a TPS/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit High input TPS Voltage High.
The 0156 code is 02 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
I wish I knew more about these 'New-fangled' cars. I'm used to the older ones with NO computers. Good Luck. John M

I have a somewhat similar question.
I own a 96 Dodge Indy Ram and recently had a "Check Engine Light".
Seems that the Truck would start but had a rough idle and the second I took my foot off the gas it would die IMMEDIATLY!
So after a few ays of not running, I disscionected the battery to clear the computer and reconnected it back p and it ran like a champ.
Now my problem is, did I also wipe out the codes to tell me WHAT the problem was?

Roger, John M. here. I don't know if the code is still in the computer but, for future reference, both Advance Auto Stores and Autozone Auto parts stores have scanners that they will use to read the codes in your truck and de-code them for you(at least they do down here in Florida) I guess they figure that you will then buy the parts to fix the problem from THEM. Good luck!. John M.
