Hi!
I have a '93 Grand Marquis and the Air Bag light flashes twice - then five times. What is a code 25 and what is the repair? By the way, where can I get these codes, besides from the dealer?? Thanks....MB

Hi Cobra,
First, thanks for the reply! Second, I have not checked the Cruise Control but the Horn works, for sure! Where do you get the list of error codes from - I can't find a source?? I know there are two sensors (by the radiator) in addition to the safer sensor by the drivers door plus the main air bag computer. What does the code say is the EXACT PROBLEM and what would the repair be?? Thanks....MB

Thanks Cobra! How do you know what the code is if you do not have a list? I tried GOOGLE but could not find a list anywhere!!! I could probably fix it if I knew what the code meant. Anyone else got any ideas??????? MB

Well, after working on Police cars (Crown Vic's are the same thing) all of them had the same problem. Turns out on those early 90's that the main wiring harness thats inside the passenger side fender that holds the wire to the air bag deploy sensor in the front bumer rubs and the wire gets messed with. Thus causing a problem since the computer cannot read from the sensor. I have long forgotten which wire it was....

Many thanks for the reply! Actually, the problem was in the main air bag computer. I replaced it myself and it fixed the problem.

Yes - it is behind the glove compartment. Empty the glove box, push the tabs in so you can lower the door and the computer is straight through and slightly to the left. It has two connectors connected to it and is held in place by a bracket system. Pry the bracket (with a flat head screwdriver or something similar) and pull the computer out. I paid about $190 for it at the dealer - couldn't find it anyplace else. Hope this helps.....MB

Hey, Im having a similiar problem. The airbag light flashes twice every second or so. This started happening after I got my exhaust put on (two flows, H-Pipe, no cats).
I took some pictures for miamibob to look at and to tell me which is the computer that I need to replaced. I found the computer at Autozone, but they have to order it. So I figure that I need to find out for sure which is which before I order.

Both were taken after I pull the glove compartment out and down. First picture is on the left side, second is on the right.
Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for the photos! The Light Blue Box IS the AIR BAG COMPUTER. Just be certain to verify that it is the problem. My code was "25" so you need to verify the faulty part before replacing. There is a "foam cover" over the box. The part from the dealer didn't come with it so I reused the old one. If you are careful with the old one you can reuse it. By the way, what does Autozone charge for it??

$205 but they have to special order it. Im thinking of just going to the dealership like you and getting it for $190.
Also, Im not sure how to check the codes on the car. I've wanted to learn, but wasn't sure how.

It appears the price varies by dealer. I had quotes from the $190 all the way up to $250! As for reading the codes you count the flashes. For example it will flash twice, stop and then flash five times. That equals "25". You then get the numerical code and check it against the official code list which can be found many places on the Internet. Do a "Google" search. Hope this helps!!

Its flashing 5 times then 1 time. So I figure its code "51" or code "15". I've been googleing all night and I can't find any code guides. Can someone help me out.

Nevermind, I found out the problem.
Code 51: Air bag diagnostic monitor internal thermal fuse. --- Fuse blown due to intermittent short to ground.
Which means that I need to either take it to the dealer, or do it myself. I also found this out: "It could a bad steering clockspring assembly which is not uncommon." I have no idea what that means.
So Im not sure what Im gunna do.

You have the correct info. It means a "short" exists and MUST be repaired before replacing the Air Bag Computer or you will probably damage the new computer. A list of codes can be found at http://probefaq.org/service/airbag-fault.html Too bad we coudn't fix this without Dealer intervention but unless you can find the short I wouldn't mess with it!
P.S. I'll be traveling out of the country soon and will probably not be checking this board. Hope I have been of some assistance!!
