need ur help guys

guys i am doing a senior exit project and my thesis is : a strong positive correlation exists between street racing movies such as "The fast and the furious" and street racing realted accidents.
i need to come up witha product. the product has to be totally done by the student so i cant go out and buy two model cars and simulate them racing.
help me brainstorm. i thoguht about doing a survey for some freshmen. id give them a prelim. survey asking them questions about street racing and if they think its safe etc. , then i would give them a brochure with the stats of street racing realted deaths b4 and after the release of f&f. then i would show them the first scene of th 2f2f and give them another survey asking if they felt the need for spee after watchin that clip. help me brainstorm. i thought this mite be good but it is wayy to time consuming and i hafta present on monday. HELPPP

i think there is a correlation cause dumbass kids see the movie then think that they can go out and race and act wreckless just like those guys did and they do it on busy streets and high traffic areas. but i do not think street racing is dangerous if the people doing it do it in a safe location. but then again anyhting involving cars going fast has the potential to be dangerous cause u never know. i mean u could be driving perfectly fine and then hit a spot where a person has laid rubber and that will cause u to spin out. about ur project exactly what kinda product r u thinkin u want to make like a safety decice or something like that? maybe u should make a video explaining the dangers of street racing and then give alternative to street racing or safer ways to race

u mean like a sort of anti street racing , pro track racing program. that could work.lets go with this.any ideas on how to approach this

if your in socal there should be a few dragstrips that were created just for the purpose of getting F&F racers off the street. you should go to any dragstrip in the area and they will give you some info im sure

yea show the negatives of street racing and the positives of track racing for example the track has a better surface u can actually get ur times and no cops

i'd say give a ton of cons on street racing. don't give pros cause a)there aren't many and b)you should stay away from contradicting your argument. start out with a negative perception of street racing. i don't know if you know much pschology but you can say that when people are envious of others, they tend to show a 'monkey see monkey do' attitude.. so when people watch f&f then go try to drive their cars that can't handle that type of driving, they'll become a statistic and a reason to raise insurance premiums. and then flip it around by adding that there ARE places where racing is controlled and much safer than on 3rd street by the movie theatre for example. give all the cons for track racing. you can give stats all you want too. they help, but as long as they're relevant to your thesis. the stats you suggested are perfect. you could even go into the types of cars that are typically more considered 'race cars' by their owners, like the civic.. explain that you can have a front mounted engine with front wheel drive, front mounted engine with rear wheel drive, also with awd, mid mounted engine with rear wheel drive.. etc.. explain which one is best suited for driving aggressively and make a point that a ff car isn't the greatest COUGH CIVIC COUGH.. i don't know if you can bias or not but i'd tear the civic up as a 'race car'.. anyways, i'd finish with restating the thesis and explaining how each point you made supported your argument. you'll get a good mark cause its an interesting topic. good luck

i agree w/ d bo and i also think that u should stress the importance of having a good suspension and good tires for people who are planning on racing whether they are racing track or street

You said you were presenting.... i'd just recommend including personal experiences rather than just blabbering statistics to them. 1) they'll fall asleep 2) it draws them in so i guess you'll make a more 'interesting' presentation versus a dull speech.

yea i have to agree about the track racing thing. THe track is so much better....even though iv never been personally on a track. Iv watched but never ran. THis summer maybe though. Anyways, just tell them that all the cool fast cars go to the track, and that mostly ricers who think they have a "cool fast car" drive around wrecklessly and try to race all the time. That sounds like a cool project to be honest. Also mention the auto-cross. And i think some places have gymkhana now(its in gt4, but really stupid in the game). Showing that there are better places to actually drive your car fast, legally. Also cops have there own cars that they take to the track, to help educate kids. Theres like a 1000 hp DARE camaro, fully drag car that they take to the track here. Its damn cool. Dunno if you guys have DARE around your areas, but its a cop group that educates about drugs and street racing and shit. It was required for us in like 6th grade. Well the drug course was, not street racing, because MOST 6th graders are what 12? lol most.

yes fanatic you bring up a great point. I only race if i know i have a chance....So with a stock 240 that means i hardly race whahhaahaha. So since i know most of the time ill get beat i dont race, which means no speeding and no crazy maneuvers that could possibly result in devistation.

I think it jsut comes down to thinking, there's a time and a place to go fast and when it's pouring rain, it's not the time, and downtown isn't the place.

But in F&F they race in downtown and they're ok.

Anyways, for your project, go to your friendly police station. They love to talk about that stuff. I ‘m sure that they will give you a complimentary colored pamphlet to go with the presentation…. You never know! Hey, they might just show up in your school to teach you about sound decibels and write a couple of ticks for parked cars in the parking lots as a free demonstration of how to stop street racing…

Werd. I go to the "street races" nearly every saturday and when they had a Street racing special on the news I was like "where the fuck is that" all they showed was little Impromptu Civic WaRz blasting down the Drag.

All of the guys around here do "Wangan" Style 40-70 to 130-170 runs up on the upper deck while the ricers get busted on the frontage road racing from lights.

here, its only a 20 minute drive to open farm roads.. the outskirts of ottawa are very well defined so its safe enough to go out there and race but they occasionally get followed..
