Hey I have alot of questions about an engine swap. I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX and i was wondering what i was running under my hood right now. It is all stock as of now. And i was also wondering what engines would fit in there without any problems. How much each engine would cost. And how much Hp I could get outta the engine stock. Is there any web page for this?!?! Thanx alot people!

you do got lots of questions and the only one i cant answer is what engine u have now. You could easily find that out by typing in the year and model of your car on a search engine(no pun intended). Well i gotta '94 accord and i'm currently gonna put a Prelude Vtech engine in it...this engine is great for accords '91 and up i believe. they offer a lot of torque and that is what an accord needs since they tend to be on the heavy side. the prelude engine is a 190 hp engine so that is what you should expect your car to be at when u swap your old one for that one. this engine is called the H22A, and it is one bad ass engine, trust me. this engine goes for about 2500-3000 dollars man, but it is definitely worth it. no one will believe your '91 is pumpin 190 horses...oh yeah u gotta get a prelude tranny if you want that engine

in your accord you have a F22A1 engine that puts out a bestial 125 hp and 140 ft/lbs of torque. the emissions are ODBI

the best engine will be a 94-96 H22A (prelude engine)(192hp, 152ft/lbs). why i say this is the best ? Because of the ODBI emissions. what is made after 96 is a ODBII emissions and you will need to convert it to ODBI. Another engine that will fit perfectly is the H23A (non vtec) that makes a 160hp.

both of the h series engines will fit in withou any modifications, except the vtec wireing for the h22.

what do u say about this

4th gen accord: ~2900lbs
4th gen lude: ~2950lbs
5th gen lude ~2950lbs
5th gen accord ~2900lbs
6th gen accord ~3100lbs

now which is heavier ? all are based on the accord lx 4cyl , and the lude si for 4th gen, base for the 5th gen.

a complete swap should come with a tranny. the accord tranny is geared for fuel economy

Hey man thanks for catching me on my mistake....i didn't know that at all, i always hear people saying that accords are heavy that's all
do u by any chance know how much civics weigh?

90 civic: no data
95 civic lx sedan: 2440lbs
98 civic lx sedan: 2460lbs
02 civic lx sedan: 2515lbs

you always can go to carpoint and check the weight and the specs of a car. everythink i included here is based on an aiuto tranny. manuals are a ~100 extra lbs

Thanx alot you guys! That helps alot. But a few more questions...The prelude engine...i could just try junk yards for it? or do i have to order it? and your saying just for the engine is 2500-3000 or the engine and the tranny? and how much would it cost to get a shop to drop the thing? or is that better off just to do it yourself?

BTW- i have a auto tranny and i want to switch it to manual...is that worth the money or just a waste?

i wouldn't try the engine from a junk yard. what you get for 2-3 grand is a complete swap with engine, tranny, ecu and wireing harnesses. there is a place in montreal that sells them for like 1600 + shipping

Darn, I just traded in my 93 Accord to a dealer last week. Got $3300.00 for it. Now that I got rid of my Honda, I run into this forum and my interest of putting in a more powerful engine is sparkled again.

Does anybody know where I can take a Honda to in Los Angeles area for a H22A & tranny replacement for ~$3000.00?

What would the fuel economy be after the upgrade?

Thanks.

Just a tiny tiny correction to something above, somebody said that after 96 engines were OBDII, but 96's are OBDII also. So it's 95 and before that have OBDI and 96+ w/OBDII.

Fuel economy should be that of a prelude or better considering that the accord is lighter. with out ecu and fuel system upgrades, milage should stay around stock.
