buying a 96 civic?adaly86 03-12-2005, 08:28 AM Hey all, thinking of getting a 96 Civic 1.4 hatch here in ireland, i think its the most basic model. What kind of problems do these cars have, is rust common? etc.. If you could help that would be great wheel1856 03-12-2005, 11:22 AM I am on my 4th Honda...4th only because I wrecked one and sold the other two for reasons not related to the car(s). In my experience with civics, the only problems I have had with each one was the exhaust....it seems that for some reason, the exhaust piping was all for rusting out at least once in my tenure with the car - might have been the pipes and not honda, might have been road salt...eh? As far as the body is concerned with rust, same as any other car, it's just paint and metal, keep it clean, repair dents and scratches, it'll last forever. Honda's are awesome!! And handle well in the rain - a good feature in Ireland. Also, parts are plentiful and inexpensive. Not to mention, Honda's are very easy cars to work on, you can fix most of the car with a phillip's head screwdriver and a 10mm rachet. buy it - lasts forever, easy to fix if you ever need to, good gas mileage on the (HX?) worth your money. Ace$nyper 03-12-2005, 12:53 PM we dont get that motor here in the US so i'm not to informed about it if i remember reading right its a throw back from a few years ago. Strong little guy as far as how long it lasts gets good milage and nothing to sporty though. Is it carbed can you get the motor code. But Hondas are known for the reliablity adaly86 03-12-2005, 05:40 PM im sure its fuel injected, its the 1.4 DX european version, i think its similar to the ones in the imports, it better not be carbed thats why im selling the 91 civic i have, it keeps goin in and out of the right mixture setting and it would cost 700 to get a new one, cant be fixed, oh well xxx MacabrE xxx 03-12-2005, 10:37 PM This will tell you everything.... http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/2172 Ace$nyper 03-13-2005, 01:11 PM im sure its fuel injected, its the 1.4 DX european version, i think its similar to the ones in the imports, it better not be carbed thats why im selling the 91 civic i have, it keeps goin in and out of the right mixture setting and it would cost 700 to get a new one, cant be fixed, oh well I have never seen the 1.4 fuel injected in my life we just never had it.
