109 McLaren PicciesExoticCarSite.com 03-10-2005, 07:52 AM I'm sure some of them must be new to Peloton in particular, and to the rest of you guys :) The pictures of the Carrera GT and McLaren F1 are awesome, too bad they are such a low resolution. link: http://speed.supercars.net/PitLane?viewThread=y&gID=7&fID=113&tID=30139 jkbon 03-10-2005, 08:43 AM Thanks for the pics ! Some of them are great ! Peloton25 03-10-2005, 11:22 AM These two shots of 56XPGT parked outside by itself were indeed new for me. Thanks!! http://speed.supercars.net/pitlane/pics/980512a.jpg http://speed.supercars.net/pitlane/pics/980512b.jpg The shot you posted by itself and labeled a prototype is actually a shot of GTR #07R when AMG was using it for the development of the CLK GTR. I guess you could call it a prototype as long as you state it's an AMG prototype. It's certainly not something that McLaren put together themselves. >8^) ER Thorst13 03-10-2005, 12:47 PM Ohhhh... theres my favorite Mc xp56gt!! I simply adore that car, the coolest of them all! F1 monster 03-10-2005, 01:40 PM Really? I think it's too long and flowy, not at all true to Gordon Murray's ideals of a compact sports car with a wheel at each corner. You do realize that it wears that body just to manage the airflow better so it could stay competitve with the other cars it was competing against, right? Nothing to do with real world usefulness or aesthetics. Why do you like it so much? I think its profusion of wings, skirts, vents, and oversized body bits make it as ugly as McLaren 240i's posts. Mclaren240! 03-10-2005, 02:06 PM Isnt it for sale for the right price i dont have many shots of this car only the one from driving ambition and one of it in the factory. Have they change the wheels or is the driving ambition car the black one? where is the? the red ones in japan. Im confused. Peloton25 03-10-2005, 02:08 PM ...make it as ugly as McLaren 240i's posts. It would be great if you could quit with the pot shots. :nono: :disappoin = = = = = = As for your opinion on the look of the longtail, I certainly agree. I'd like to see a longtail road car in person to be certain, but I have a feeling it would not be to my liking. The rear is just too long and flat and out of balance with the rest of the design. It works a little better with a wing flying off the back, but it's still a bit overdone, though I realize it was for a very good reason. So much for those low polar moments of intertia. ;) >8^) ER Peloton25 03-10-2005, 02:13 PM Isnt it for sale for the right price i dont have many shots of this car only the one from driving ambition and one of it in the factory. Have they change the wheels or is the driving ambition car the black one? where is the? the red ones in japan. Im confused. They have changed the wheels at some point on the green longtail road car. It now wears a thinner, more flowing 5-spoke design from Enkei I believe. Yes, the red (burgundy) one is in Japan. It also wears the newer style wheel. >8^) ER Mclaren240! 03-10-2005, 02:17 PM Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally Posted by F1 monster ...make it as ugly as McLaren 240i's posts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It would be great if you could quit with the pot shots. Even Murray himself has stated that this is his true vision. He says so in "Driving ambition", that when he saw the long tail howl down the straight he though to himself "We finally did it, building the perfect racecar". I'm also aware over that the design was an attempt to keep up with those clk-gtr's but it did not manage to do that. The clk-gtr is actually the McLarens half brother :p The fact that it looks so overdone is ecactly why I like it so much. It's almost too much of the good stuff and it balances on the edge to insanity like a batmobile or something like that.... :screwy: It's the best and rarest McLaren of them all and that also make it very special to me, especially the silverstone green xp56gt. If I ever reach my goal to buy one of these beauties, the xp56gt would be the first one I would check out and try to buy! :iceslolan 5 spoke from Enkei is correct! It maybe the ultimat racer but as a road car over the humps... On the outher had to me it looks more speed focused. O and is it just for me that link dosent worke? Did you see that I have reserved a MINT 1.18 Loctite for you?! mini magic 03-10-2005, 02:52 PM These two shots of 56XPGT parked outside by itself were indeed new for me. Thanks!! The funny thing is, i found these a few weeks ago and was going to send them to you today. Looks like someone beat me to it. Mclaren240! 03-10-2005, 03:13 PM Has that link died? Peloton25 03-10-2005, 03:55 PM Has that link died? SC.net has intermittent outtages. Just keep trying.... Thorst - I'll contact you offline about the LOCTITE GTR. I assume since it's MIB you'll want big dollars, so since I toss my boxes I might just continue the hunt for one on Ebay. >8^) ER F1 monster 03-10-2005, 06:14 PM Quote: It would be great if you could quit with the pot shots. Lets face it telling me to F of of the basis of my disability isent on. Its time he went. OK, but you did say you had me on ignore. Obviously, you don't. And if you care to look back, you will notice I had stopped saying anything to you, but you still kept making your jackass comments towards me. Having a disability is one thing. Using it as a crutch is an entirely different matter. First of all, you can use a spell checker. Secondly, this time, I was commenting about the nature of your posts, not your atrocious spelling or grammar (which you blame on a disability). I am happy to go to my neutral corner and ignore you, just make sure you do the same. Especially when you say you will. This means no comments directed towards me, or about me. Get it, babycakes? Peloton/others, sorry for the digression. OK, back to our regularly scheduled McLaren discussion: Thorst, interesting comment by Gordon, though I think he was referring to the GTR programme and McLaren's involvement in the race series, not the McLaren F1 roadcar per se. He specifically said the F1 roadcar was not intended to be a racecar, many times over. Even that specific comment in DA, I believe, is in the context of the F1 being a racecar and still having so many of the comforts of a roadcar. Hence, the perfect racecar, one that can be driven to the track, raced competitively, and driven back. I agree on the uniqueness of it, but I think that's a "false economy"--something's true worth is only found out by market demand when supply is not restricted. Even the F1 roadcar exists in very finite numbers, and this may be part of the reason it does not depreciate. But it is a tweaking of the supply and demand equation on the supply side. It would be far, far more impressive if there were, say, a thousand (or ten thousand) of these cars, and they still did not depreciate because demand for them remains extremely strong regardless of any factors on the supply side. In the way you explain it, it is perfect, yes. But in my eyes, compared to the HDF or 95/96 GTR cars, it's not as attractive as the other variants (relatively speaking). I like understated things, not over the top boy-racer looks. The other GTR/LM/HDF look extreme enough to me. You did help me understand how and why it is beautiful to you, so thanks for that. ExoticCarSite.com 03-10-2005, 06:38 PM Thanks for the pics ! Some of them are great ! I thought te Carrera GT / McLaren shots would of been new, not the GT piccies, oh well, I still found something new for you in anycase. Even that specific comment in DA, I believe, is in the context of the F1 being a racecar and still having so many of the comforts of a roadcar. I think he was refering to the fact that the longtail was the the ultimate incarnation of the racing F1. The first GTR's were only basically roadcars with wings and side skirts so this was the point at which GM was happy with the F1 as a racecar. It's not the prettiest F1 certainly but it looks better in the carbon than the photos would suggest (don't all cars after all?). It's still a shame it's a little over fussy since this really is the best F1 they made. Btw, polar inertia wasn't seriously effected since the aerodynamic additions are virtually hollow. :) F1 monster 03-10-2005, 08:48 PM I think he was refering to the fact that the longtail was the the ultimate incarnation of the racing F1. Thanks! :bigthumb: It's not the prettiest F1 certainly but it looks better in the carbon than the photos would suggest (don't all cars after all?). It's still a shame it's a little over fussy since this really is the best F1 they made. How is it better than the others? Very curious... Btw, polar inertia wasn't seriously effected since the aerodynamic additions are virtually hollow. :) I suspected as much all along. I am also aware that they ended up blanking off a couple of the vents over the front wheels because too much downforce was being generated! Thanks for the info! :) Mclaren240! 03-10-2005, 08:50 PM Im looking forwards to the fist road registered longtail racer it has to happen shorley! Its odd realy the GTR most closeley related to the road car was the most sucessfull and as the car got further from a race it became less sucessfull. I belive Gorden felt that the longtail was the point at which the F1 became a true racer supprising as i didnt do so well. I wounder if the new GT series might see a privater put a GTR back on track? Stranger thangs have happend like the 917's Last lenmans entry.... ExoticCarSite.com 04-04-2005, 07:32 PM This was tkaen during the 1995 Monaco Grand Prix http://speed.supercars.net/pitlane/pics/1055283d.jpg Mclaren240! 04-04-2005, 09:00 PM Wow man thank you so much thats a stunning pic are ther any more? Any info on the more pics of this car would also be much appreciated anybody know the number? Peloton25 04-05-2005, 01:59 AM With the picture being that old it could almost be any car. I know that I've never seen a silver road car with a black center section on the dash. My guess is you are looking at an F1 that has since seen a refit. >8^) ER Mclaren240! 04-05-2005, 05:38 PM I like it pity ther arnt more pics. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
