Well I just set up a torrent server free of use so we can all share our video files.

All you guy have to do is create a torrent file and set its tracker adress to: http://208.187.181.66:6969/announce

Any decent torrent client that you guys are using should have a "create torrent" option. Try and save the torrent file in the same directory as the file you are torrenting it. This should make it easier for you guys to seed it.

Send me the torrent file (should be only a few Kb) to the following email adress racing_vids@yahoo.com and I'll start to host it.

You will be able to find the files here to be downloaded:

http://208.187.181.66:6969/

I'll post the torrent as soon as I'll receive your torrent file via email.

A few points:

1. Remember you guys have to start seeding the files to start spreading them.
2. This is only a test sever so it might have some bugs that need to be worked out. Eventually this will be proper full fledged 24/7 tracker free of use so we can all share our racing vids.
3. I will work on a proper upload system so you can just post your torrent files instead of emailing them to me.
4. Share only racing video files.

I'll also work on a FAQ to explain in detail on how to use bittorent and how to make new torrents. For now if you have problems or cannot figure it out just post and I'll try to naswer your questions.

thats a great service to us at AF, thank you.

Maybe we can include a faq for those unfamiliar with bittorent?

That is an excellent idea, and a great option for those looking to post their vids without any probs. Thanks Neutrino . L8...

Its the #1 P2P protocol on the net. It works by managing files as puzzels. You start by Dl the first piece of the tracker then you'll start getting the rest of the pieces from other peers. Of course while you Dl you are also a peer so you are also sharing the pieces you have. Therfore instead of getting the file from one place and killing its bandwith everyone shares the bandwith, so the more popular the share becomes instead of getting clogged the transfer gets only faster.

And to get you guys started here is an older racing vid between an SRT4 and an Evo:

http://208.187.181.66:6969/

(you can find it there the file name is prretty clear)

also after you guys finish Dl please seed for as long as posible.

and on the flipside, if nobody seeds the file then you cannot get it.

This is why its up to the person who wants to share the file to start seeding it first.

Well i have received a few files not sure 100% from which members so it would be better if you guys would also write in the email who sent it so I know who to PM for technical problems and such.

So far all the torrents are set up fine except for this one: "street_skiing.wmv.torrent" it needs the torrent tracker adress: http://208.187.181.66:6969/announce

So all the other ones are ready to go however you guys need to start seeding them. Very important. So start seeding the files then head on here: http://208.187.181.66:6969/ or refresh that page and check if your seed is active (you should see a "1") under seeds. Then if you see that all is ready make a thread with your video, remember the more people you get to DL the faster it will go.

well your bittorent client should already have the capability to create torrent files. It should be in its menus, sellect create torrent or something like it then select a file to torrent and tell it to use this tracker adress: "http://208.187.181.66:6969/announce"; then send me the .torrent file it creates. make sure to put this torrent file in the same folder as the original file so you can open it with your client and seed it.

Nuetrino is there a way to put up a good description of each video so people know if they want to DL them or not?

Also you should put up a link on where to DL a bit torrent client for people.

Well as i said this is just a very early trial. This tracker seems to lack the capability to place descriptions.

However I will switch soon to another much better dedicated tracker that will allow you to submit the torrents directly.

It will probably be after another moth of intensive tests before I'll be able to provide a proper reliable tracker.

So fyi guys probably i will not be able to keep this tracker up for more that a few days at best. It runs on a java virtual machine and hogs up resources like crazy. Thanks for helping me with the test though.

Also when I'll launch the final version of the tracker it should coincide with my computer help related website that I am curently coding and it will have step by step advice on how to use torrent clients.

Anyway here is quick link to a good and easy to use torrent client people can use to DL:
http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/

its called ABC and being from sourceforge it will be clean.

Also again guys feel free to start treads to discuss the posted videos so we can get some traffic going on.

I still don't understand this..:(

drftk1d
03-11-2005, 05:53 PM
it works like this:

1) download the client (choose any one):
http://www.bittorrent.com/ (offical)
http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/download.php (ABC)
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php (Azureus)
http://www.bittornado.com/download.html (bittornado)
http://www.download.com/3000-2196_4-10296306.html (bitcomet)

2) now pick a place to download your torrent from (in our case its neutrino's tracker)

http://208.187.181.66:6969/

click on the name of the file you want and you will download the torrent.
the file will end with ".torrent" (without the quotes)

3) Most of the clients will either let you drag and drop the file from the desktop or a window straight into the program window. That or you may just double click the torrent file and the program will open it. You will most likely be asked where you want the file saved. The file will start downloading. When its finished just open the file as normal.

why do you hate it, from a tech standpoint bittorend is amazing, and its actually perfect for large files. Why do you think the movie industry looks at it as its biggest threat.

It depends how effective blizzard set up their system, plus do you realise how much slower the Dl would've been if people would've downloaded the entire 2.3Gb straight from their servers. It would've been lucky if they even stayed up.

I would like to say thank you for your support on this early test, I will shut down the tracker now, but hopefully I will be back online soon with a far better version on a dedicated box where you can upload your own torrent files directly.

I will also have detailed descriptions on how to use the bittorent network.

:) :) :)
