1990 Trooper 185,652 miles 2.6L Daily driver.

Replaced the head at 165000 with an aftermarket that corrected the warping/cracking issues.
new starter and water pump. A/C kinda works. Has a bad relay somewhere that's killing my battery (any ideas which?)
Oil changed every 2K miles. I expect another 100k from this truck.

400,000 same engine, antifreeze, freon, altenator.(knocking on wood) only replaced hog head in rear end, transmission, and has a valve cover gasket leak to be replaced asap. 130 mile round trip commutes to work occaisionally, but the legend rides on

Hi All,

New to this forum and just closed on a 1997 Rodeo with a V6 last night. It just turned over 170,000 miles and seems to run great, but has a few minor problems; rear door power window and door lock issues, and rear window shocks, but other than that it’s pretty clean. There are receipts in the glove box, but I haven’t had time to go through them to see what has been replaced. The paint is oxidizing on the hood and roof, but the rest of it is in pretty good shape. The interior is in great shape for being as old as it is.

The biggest problem I have is the valve cover gaskets are leaking, and it starts smoking from under the hood at stop lights. I’ve done searches on the web for a procedure for replacing them, but am confused as some say you have to remove the intake and some don’t mention it. Can anyone on the forum please tell me what it takes to replace them? I have been quoted $360.00, but that seems a little high to me. I work on old street rods and stuff so I don’t have a problem doing the work; just need to know the procedure.

Thanks….Jeff

2001 Isuzu Trooper LS
Purchased in 2005 with 68,000 miles
Today: 14x,xxx miles (I can't remember the exact number).
Had to replace the A/T in 2007 and 2009. Thank goodness for extended warranty. Just a week ago (2011) hubby unknowingly overfilled the ATF, causing spillage. Thinking it was leaking again, we took it to highly recommended tranny shop, who said it was slipping (we didn't feel it) and wouldn't last for a month. Hubby said just do a flush, picked it up, and has been test driving for past couple of days. Knock on wood, so far, so good.
Other than the pain in the arse trans, only other issues were the starter going out (2011) and anti-theft going off for no reason. Took out the fuses to the anti-theft to shut it up, but now we have no dome light which is not a big deal.
Great vehicle for camping and hauling the dog around.

127,000 on a 2000 trooper ls and 113,000 on a 2001 limited. The 2000 has a transmission slipping problem, taking it to tranny shop in the morning. The 2001 needs a cat. I have a question about the cat being that there are two. Are they both the same as to there function? left and right?. Thanks.

:grinyes: 1993 Trooper S 3.2L SOHC. 236678 miles

I am the second owner of this trooper and I love my truck. !!! I replaced the
Radiator and all hoses after a complete flush of the cooling system, replaced
The timing belt and water pump and thermostat. Complete tune up and added
A performance chip. Replaced valve lifters, added a safari snorkel and a K&N
Air filter, replaced the clutch master and slave cylinder, replaced the entire exhaust system, replaced all wheel bearings (front and rear) and the u-joints
On the front and rear driveshafts. Added auxiliary cooling fans and steering
Stabilizer, replaced all ball joints and most of the steering system waiting for new steering box (e-bay). I started to replace the parts at 230000 the clutch
Is still the original and working fine I will be changing it soon along with the
Flywheel soon by summer I will be starting on the drivetrain (summer 2014)
(Engine, transmission, transfer case etc). The parts I replaced were still in good
Condition I want to completely restore my trooper to go another 200 or 300 thousand miles it's a great vehicle and I get compliments from other trooper
Owners and even owners of the newer car set. I can say I am a proud Isuzu
Owner. !!!!!!

Any major problems: Nothing major. Just recently had to clean out the egr port for which (EGR Valve & Tube Cleaning - 2001 Isuzu Rodeo) on UTube was a fantastic help, and just replaced my starter which went out without any warning.

Year: 1994 Isuzu Trooper 4d
Engine: 3.2 L Sohc
Miles: 250,000
Major problems: I bought the trooper used 2008 with (130,000), so I'm the second owner. I've had the transmission rebuilt once (163,000), second time around (248,000), I bought a used transmission out of a trooper w/108,000 miles. Had the alternator changed three times, The front windshield, radiator replaced, the regulator arm for the rear passenger door, fuel pressure regulator, battery, all four tires, driver side window because the clips snapped off the regulator arm, thermostat housing along with the thermostat of course. Than I'm planning on replacing the rear window regulator and the master control switch on the drivers side. I also just found a heater core in a junk yard on the east coast since they don't produce them anymore and the ones you find online are all $6oo plus. So for a hundred bucks I got a used one. This trooper is a beast and I love it. Few problems like the lifters are ticking again and I had it broke down four years ago and cleaned and it's lasted this long w/out ticking but that's just the type of motor it is. Plus, I'm currently changing brakes and the right outer and inner CV boots on the trooper(250,000).

1994 Trooper SE 3.2 DOHC 4WD Auto 147000 miles. Bought in 2010 @ 121000 mi. All the options; moonroof, headlight wipers etc. Pretty much original, everything works. Major items I have replaced: starter, timing belt group (including water pump.) Valve cover gaskets . Tie rods, U/L ball joints, sway bar bushings and shocks. (Bless you, Rock Auto!) Vehicle is virtually rust-free. I try to maintain a good PM routine on all my vehicles; pays off in the long run.
