Just bought the rig 2 weeks ago. Had no 4WD. Found bad Vacuum Switch on actuator. While under the truck, found ALL FOUR CV boots split in two! Needless to say, the vacuum switches cost $177.00 (for the set) from the dealer and I'm replacing both axles ($65 a side). Other than that, it's been a good ride.

Update: 150K on the 3.2L V6 auto Rodeo LS 4x2

Major problems: coolant leaks from o-rings sealing ends of external cooling pipes on top of block and freeze plugs between the block and tranny housing.

I don't consider broken window regulators or failed starter as major problems.

Main reason for the update? 4L30E performing flawlessly at 150K!

Wiper relay; shocks; both cats and "Y" pipe; another O2 sensor; Duct work from MAF to throttle (I am so strong I broke it putting it back on).

This summer I plan on replacing the radiator hoses and flushing the system and i am going to do the rear diff again.

I will do the rear brakes soon as well.

I decided to register on this forum to find out solutions to my 2000 rodeo LS. It seems to me that I'm having the problem that many of you have in terms of my truck (bought 2 months ago) is stalling when I'm on the interstate for about an hour or so. It cranks up again if I allow it to sit. Has the fuel sending unit actually solved all of your problems?

1999 LS
(1998 engine)

approx 91000 miles

I am not sure of the mileage cuz she is in the shop as we speak :(
Major engine trouble:
Had to replace first engine after driving 3000 miles (it used almost all oil in the first 1500 miles, long story)
with this engine
current trouble is timing belt has slipped 4 teeth (I'm told)
mechanic is waiting for part (he is not going to replace water pump, as he thinks the tensioner was left loose when water pump was replaced).
He says there may be damage to the valves, which he will know after replacing timing belt tomorrow

does all of this sound reasonable to you?

engine is producing white smoke, husband thinks I should sell this truck and cut my loses (i have about 8grand in it with the engine replacement)...I can probably only sell it for 5k and don't really know what to buy next that would be similar and under 10k...what are your thoughts!!??
I have really enjoyed driving this truck, but it needs tires, and the brakes are about half worn...just trying to decide which way to head from here.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!!

I have a '97 Honda Passport which ran virtually repair except for two batteires, starter and changing the timing belts. But lately I had to replace the alternator (the original) and my truck is revving high when it first starts and then it stalls when I get to a complete stop...intermittently. To it to a dealer and ran a diagnostics ($100) and stated the egr and IAC valves needs to replace and slush out the system for carbon.

I am pretty mechanical and want to do the repairs myself, the dealer wants $1500 to do the repairs, where are these two parts located on the engine?

Thanks in advance!

84,000 miles now, bought used at 56,000 and have had the following issues:
intake manifold gasket replaced, ABS light comes on sporadically, transmission range mode sensor needed to be cleaned, various rattles from loose heat shields, rusty undercarriage, many suspension nuts and bolts are stuck and will be extremely difficult to remove when it comes time to replace shocks or any other maintenance

Great truck overall. I have yet to encounter conditions my Rodeo couldn't handle. Well worth what I paid for it.

Year: 99
Miles: 95k (bought at 63k) 2nd owner
Model: V6 3.2 4W
Major Problems: Had the hardest time figuring out why it was hard to start (7-10 cranks) and once in a while turned off while driving, otherwise drove and felt great while driving. Tuned it..spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, fuel injection power flush, no luck. After it turned off in a curve with traffic behind me, I surfed until I found this website. Solution: Replaced fuel pressure regulator (about $80 bucks at Checker auto parts).

-replaced battery
-replaced tires
-replaced serpentine belt

repairs needed:
rear wiper motor dead'
fuel pump whining noise
fuel sending unit
timing belt

With gas prices so high and 300miles a week just to work, now only drive it for weekend fun. Bought used vw for better gas mileage.

Love the truck!

He's very smart when it comes to fixing our cars, but he just doesn't have a lot of time to work on them. :( I figured we could get some help from here regarding a few problems we're having with my Rodeo, so here we are. :)

1995 Rodeo
3.2L V6
179,233 miles

Major Problems: The compressor went out the Summer of 2005 and still hasn't been replaced so my kids and I have had a rough summer here in Florida. Three of the four windows don't roll down, which makes the summer worse. The cables are all messed up but the motors seem to be fine. The radiator has a small crack at the top, which my husband has temporarily fixed until he can get around to installing a new radiator. The engine has something wrong with it. It shakes once I get up to about 45-50 mph. It sometimes stops after 55, but sometimes doesn't. One mechanic thinks it's the number 3 fuel injector...my husband disagrees, but doesn't know what it is. My husband has replaced the timing belt, tires, fluids, etc.

I just bought my 97 4x4 3.2, 2 weeks ago and have put 500 miles. I has 115k. Replaced original spark plugs, pwr steering fluid, and trans oil. I'm planing on having the T-belt replaced. No lights on the dash with the exeption of the rearABS and brake light coming on and off sometimes. On stud on the fron wheel had to be removed by force when it fail to come out with impact gun. AC and all electric stuff works great. The ticking from the lifter is hardly noticible. So far I like this truck, I just need to find out if my 4x4 works. I've been told by a few friends on how to check to see if it works and if it does not work, I'll purchase the Isuzu repair manual and it tells you on how to trouble shoot the 4x4. I hope is working.

Just bought it for $700 from a Marine being deployed & he wanted to get rid of it cheap. It never got registered in CA & now needs to pass smog in order for me to transfer the title. Everything on it is in good shape & works except after driving it for a few days, I realized the #6 coil was misfiring and when I pulled out the plugs, they were drenched in oil. So far we've put a bit more $$ into it but as of now it won't even start. I posted a thread for help on this...

I think once we get past these initial hurdles it has plenty of life still left in it...

Any major problems:

1) ABS went bonkers, replaced under warranty prior to recall
2) gas sending unit went out, replaced under extended warranty
3) starter went out, replaced under extended warranty
4) cluch, cost 900 bucks to replace at dealer
5) timing belt broke (29k on new timing belt - should have ad the tensioners replaced!!!!!!) causing engine damage thanks to interference engine design. will be attempting to remove head and replace head myself, after machine shop repairs. hopefully won't be any pistons damaged (??). Repair manual ordered, will remove head after reading about it.

Really have enjoyed the car despite the problems. Has plenty of pep for a 4 banger. Manual transmission helps I imagine greatly w/ this. Won't buy another Isuzu but not sorry I did - maybe will get a non-interference engine next time though - can't believe the auto industry relies on these thin little belts that could break and destroy the head. Repair shop wanted 1500-1600 to repair, estimate w/out knowing if pistons are damaged...

If anyone has any pointers or experience w/ any of this would apprecaite some feedback. Especially regarding piston damage. I'll document the entire repair process and put up a web page on it if it turns out ok...

thx.

Has been running fine. Just recently had the 3/4 accumulator piston seal replaced. (common Rodeo problem-Isuzu Forum), The mechanic agreed and said he has done a number of these replacements. He all so said he would not recommend changing it out yourself. It could get real nasty. Ran me 100 bucks.

Have not really attempted to use 4WD, but indicator comes on. Scheduled for front brake pads and oil change tommorow. Topped off all fluids and will address trans fluid soon based on what I have read here, since its the automatic transmission. Very pleased so far!!!!

i have a 95.5 rodeo with 181811 miles on it.runs ex pass smog with flying colors. has good oil pressure, cant tell its running at an idle real smooth.oil pressure is 80 psi driving and 40 psi idleing. i just wanted to know what causes it to get a rattle at about 2500-2700rpms, or just about the tim you get ready to shift. maybe just the way these motors are. heard they have a problem with piston slap. thought maybe loose bearings ,put it under aload no nock of any kind and always has good oil pressure.i hear it with the windows up and not really with the windows down.also was wondering what causes the clutch petal to get alittle vibration in it say you can fell some thing weird if you hold rpms about 1500 or up and push and realeasethe cluch. it only has about 15000 miles on the clutch. i bought it with a bad trans, paper work in the glove box showed the new clutch, and when i put the trans in the clutch looked good. other than that it sound good.
