i have a 2.7 dohc with a k&n filter and a tornado, it works great. but for about $40, you can get a cold air intake for it on ebay, just search for tacoma and click on automotive parts, etc. i think its a great buy, i havnt ordered it yet though.

dont even think about the cold air intake way, its gay and not needed. deckplate with an amsoil TS-115 filter and your all set!

Stick with OE paper filter. K&N filters are a joke. Here is something I keep bookmarked to show my customers that want a K&N:

TRD sells an excellent cleanable filter also - oiled cotton.

K&N filters are reputed to be really coarse and not good at filtering.

thanx for the replies guys, i had thought about going for a big k&n cold air intake, but was afraid to pay 200$'s plus for one. i'll try that deck plate mod and see what happens

Forgive my ignorance, just bought a used tacoma and know that it needs a new airfilter...was looking at the amsoil...but what exactly does "deck plate mod" mean? thanks for your clarification...
