Who do you think would win if drivers were same skill, drag or circuit.

since this is the mr2 section, NOT car comparisons... we'll just say the mr2 would win.

there are too many factors with racing to do the bench racing thing online.

i'm gonna say MR2. but this should really be in the car comparisons section. Mods?

The stock 240SX competes with GS-R's... I think its a full second slower than the MR2 Turbo, not a very even race or comparison unless that KA has a turbo.

a 240 vs a N/A mr2 would be more fair. a stock 240 probably wouldn't even hang with a gsr.

stock 240sx would get owned by a stock GS-R and a stock MR2 turbo would own a GS-R. its the order of the automotive food chain. people buy 240's to upgrade them ( thats their greatest strenght ) not to keep them stock ( where they're crap )

What tatII hows your SilEighty,

Yea i have to agree GSR would own 240 Stock but in the end i'd pick a 240 to roll in 1.8 v 2.4 (or 2.0 if you throw a det in)

Anyway a good match up would be a S13 Silvia and A MR2 GT-S

its not a sileighty. i have a S14. and its goin to be making close to 300whp on stock internals as soon as the 615cc injectors comes in.

the reason I said was because i raced my friends 91 mr2 turbo and won (simple drag race), we both have 160k miles and my 240 had a knocking problem. he doesnt shift so bad either. I also drove his mr2 and can notice it doesnt pull as hard in higher rpm. I don't know man, i think the 240 is faster just because it has alot more torque and it doesnt have to wait for a turbo to spin up. a mr2 only has 130 horsepower until that turbo kicks in...

something's not right. you sure his car's turbo? stock v stock an mr2 turbo should spank a 240. 200 hp 200 tq in the MR vs 155 hp and 140 tq, plus the 240 is gonna lose more power through drivetrain loss.

yep, has other small mods on it also, intake, greddy bov, few others things.

well i have to say this sounds pretty off for a MR2. In NY i have raced or had my car race TATII's 240 KAturbo on many occasions and the results were very close match, however he is making 230+ horses compared to a stock KA. Now it is very hard for me to believe that your friends 91 MR2 would lose. I maybe wrong in that it is a 91 and i have a 93, but i dont think there is TOO much of a difference. Maybe your friend just inst launching the car right? I remember when i first launched my car, i launched it like a NA and kept the RPM at 3-4 k, however i noticed that this was way too slow and it felt like the car was bogging. I heard from MR2 board or was it hyde ??? i forget ,
That MR2's can launch at 5500 Rpm, i tried this and the thing just sticks to the ground. Maybe you should race your friend again, i would like to find out the results.

The 240's are great cars...But stock for stock the Turbo MR2 would win if both cars are running right...

The 240 would also eat up a stock MR2 NA...

Both good reliable rear wheel drive cars!

i cant race him anymore unfortunatley that knocking problem i told you about turned into a loose rod and I blew my motor a couple weeks ago. thats why im on a mr2 forum, i plan on getting one next just because i love the looks and sound of them, going for something different too. Off topic but do mr2 turbo's come stock with bovs? just wondering if the one i get with sound close to the same as his greddy.

240SX's have 160 lbs of TQ...not 140...the torque is what makes them liveable

i think if you learn how to launch the MR2 you'll be very surprised...

the low end tq means shit esp compared to a mr2 turbo, those things make 200 lb ft of tq at like 3000rpm. also they can take off like a bat from hell from a stop.

hondachili is one of my best friends. i raced his mr2 a few times and from a roll we are almost identical and i'm making almost 290 crank hp. so there is nooooo waaay in hell that your stock almost dead KA would even stand a chance against a mr2 turbo unless the engine on that mr2 is dying worse then yours and is already blown.

hondachilis mr2 has a exhuast, and a gutted intake. thats the only power mods he has and it raised his boost from the stock 10 psi to 13 psi without any boost controllers.

Wow.... have you ever seen a dyno plot? My turbo kicks in at about 3krpm, which im never even at during a drag race, and more importantly at those RPM the MR2 isnt making anywhere close to its peak power. So how would you know what HP rating its at, at 3krpm?

No they come with bypass valves which are 2000% thats right 2000% better than a blow off valve.

This is also the reason your friends car may not be as fast because the metered air is getting blown into the air not back into the engine which will mess up the ECU's settings.

I raced a 240 in my MR2 and by the time i got to third he was so far back i couldnt see him.

A N/A MR2 would be a close race as they can also launce high.

Also the stock MR2 hasa twin entry turbo wich allows for 200tq at 3300rpm that turbo in my car pulls quite hard in high RPM.

Your friend should have his car checked out the vacuum lines and replace the factory Bypass valve.

Also new plugs wires and rotor from toyota should be replaced.

guessin he figured it'd be like the N/A or something? besides the gen 2 engine produces its peak torque at 3200RPM which isn't particularly high so it's still got enough torque below there, and ditto, who drops below 3k in a race anyway?

The 3S-GE/GTE has plenty of torque down low. One of reasons why I like Toyota so much is how hearty and solid all of their cars feel, and this is mainly because of their tough and torquey four- and six-cylinder engines.
