Anything I should pay attention to when buying a was off-lease Taurus with 88,350km?taurus_king 03-06-2005, 01:00 AM I saw this '01 taurus (second car i saw) this morning and found i love it. Then make an offer and am going to pick it up on next friday. the car's basic condition: ===================== Auto, 4 dr., 3.0, 6 cyl., black, grey int., ps, pb, cruise, tilt, adjustable pedals, alloy rims, A/C, AM/FM CD, fully loaded, mint. Must sell. Best offer. Cert., E-tested, leaving country. 88,340 km. $9200. 12V engine, 155hp ===================== I was told it was an off-lease car. I'm wondering: 1. what should I pay special attention to if it was a off-lease car? 2. what problems it may have at 88,340 km? I mean at this milage. Thanks in advance! mwt 03-06-2005, 08:12 AM That seems way to high even with the conversion rate. The Taurus has no resale value. That doesn't mean they aren't good cars the market is flooded with them. a four year old Taurus should be around 6K Also what engine does it have in it? I wouldn't even consider one unless it has the 24V DOHC. Mike :smokin: sfontain 03-06-2005, 08:57 AM As mwt says, that's too much money for a private sale. That's nearly $7500US and about 50K miles. I just bought a 2002 Taurus SES with 35K miles from a DEALER for $8k. To answer your question, I would do every single item in the maintenance checklist unless you have absolute proof that it was done recently enough so that it doesn't need redoing: Replace oil, replace fuel filter, replace air filter, replace PCV valve, flush transmission, flush coolant, inflate/rotate tires, check brakes and redo as needed, etc. taurus_king 03-06-2005, 10:57 AM As mwt says, that's too much money for a private sale. The only thing i wanna say is that it's so cheap to buy a used car in states.( I'm in canada) AUTOUSA 03-07-2005, 07:30 PM Just make sure tranny is shifting properly on it. 3.0 engines are good. Those cars are quality built. GPFred 03-07-2005, 07:51 PM I agree with the rest on the price, definitely too high. I price a couple of 2002 Taurus' SES with about 71K and they were selling at $6600US. Other than the standard maintenance, you can't go wrong with a Taurus. I own a 98 now and almost bought the 2002 SES, but the wife wanted a Pontiac Grand Prix instead. :) Good Luck with the new purchase. taurus_king 03-08-2005, 03:20 PM Just make sure tranny is shifting properly on it. 3.0 engines are good. Those cars are quality built. I recalled that the car trembled a little when I shifted from N to R.(you can feel the car is trembling, just for a very short time, but it's obvious). However, I did't come up with this problem when I tried a '98 Camry. Does it mean a potential problem or it's normal? Psychopete 03-08-2005, 04:02 PM Yea that dude is hosing, my dad bought a 99 Taurus for 5,100. Rod59 03-08-2005, 05:05 PM There is several possible problems with that year range of this car. The transmission problem could be a engine mount broken. It could also be a a rubber casget on a piston in the transmission which requires removal of the transmission. Also thier is a air control valve on top of the intake that fials early. Also thier is current recall for a spring shield. There may also be a recal for a head casket fialer. And yes the price is to high. The person probably ows a balance on the car that is probably why they are asking way to much for it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
