My Intrigue makes a whine when under power making a left turn, primarily from a stop. This occurs when the weather is cold and I have just started on my trip. As things warm up it goes away. Could it be a CV joint in the left front? There is no vibration.

That would be my guess. Is the wine pulsating?

A CV joint will not make a whining sound. If it was a CV you would most likely have a clunk - clunk - clunk with wheel rotation, and worse when cornering. My guess is maybe a steering pump / rack kind of a sound. Check your power steering fluid first. A wheel bearing can also make a droning kind of a sound but you'd probably still hear it when the vehicle was warmed up. Check your trans fluid too, (when warm). Fluid pumps will make a whining sound when they are picking up air. Hope this helps.

kmohr3: You were right. I checked my power steering fluid and it was low. Have since added fluid and it seems to have done the job. I'll find out tomorrow when I go to work! CV joint just didn't seem right. I've had them go out and there is a click and vibration.

Just an add-on: Oldsmobile sure found an interesting place for their fill reservoir on the 3800. It was cold out and I couldn't quickly find it so I took it to the Chevy garage where the mechanic was sure he could find it. It took him awhile!

Thanks!!!
