00 4.7 quad, power steering loses power at low rpmkipward 03-05-2005, 12:22 PM power steering loses power at low rpm...when off the gas to turn, parking lots ect. some whining is heard more often than not. doesnt apppear to have a leak. any ideas. other problems but this is most imp. abs doesnt seem to be working. brakes lock up then skid. check engine light stays on...brake light on also? thanks paul1shot 04-07-2005, 12:15 AM If the power steering pump fluid is full, look at the fluid on a clean white cloth. If it appears to be dirty, the power steering pump is on its way out. I had to replace mine at about 70,000 Make sure you flush the lines when you replace the pump, otherwise the contamination will shorten the life of the new power steering pump. By the way a new pump isn't cheap. To find the check engine code, turn ignition key to run position, off position, run position, off position, run position and leave the key in the run position. The engine code will display in the odometer. Not sure about the brakes, maybe the engine code will indicate ABS problem. This would explain the brake light staying on, if the brake fluid isn't low. If it is have a professional take a look at it cause theyll know what to do Dakota00 04-08-2005, 06:34 PM Funny thing I have the exact same problem with my Ford F-150 work truck. Once you take your foot off the gas and slow down the power steering goes dead. Hit the gas, it comes back. Very weird!!! It has a new pump (last year) and fluid was changed and is full and not leaking. Anthony riverat440 06-22-2005, 05:45 AM is it under warrenty. And where are you going to find one? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
