Crankshaft seal replacement 97 Rodeo 3.2RodeoJunkie 03-04-2005, 10:15 PM I'm in the process of replacing: water pump, timing belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pully, and all regular belts. Since I've got it down this far should I replace this seal? It's not giving me a problem.........but believe it or not none of the above listed parts were giving me a problem "yet". The bearing in my fan bracket($135) seized and I thought it was the water pump. I know the timing belt had never been replaced so while I had it down, I thought I would freshen everything up behind the timing belt covers. What is the usual life of this seal? Should I replace, or ride on? Since I've gone this far should I replace all radiator hoses, large and small? The rodeo has 90,000 miles on it. I bought it at 50,000. Ramblin Fever 03-05-2005, 12:44 AM FWIW, I had timing belt, water pump, tensioner replaced at 60K. I'm now riding on 135,500 miles - have never replaced anything more then valve cover gaskets in regards to gaskets/seals. RodeoJunkie 03-05-2005, 06:45 AM I may just need to "ease up" on what I think I need to replace. If I keep it up I could work my way through the whole veh. I don't see any postings about the crankshaft seal, maybe it's not a problem. RodeoJunkie 03-05-2005, 10:24 PM I appreciate the post. Your welcome for the post. rodeo02 03-06-2005, 07:57 PM I've never really heard of the front crankshaft seal leaking on a 3.2. You do hear of a leaking rear on the 3.2L on occasion . The rear main seal on my 2002 3.2L weeps a tad. Has done it since new. Just enough to see a small motor oil stain at the bottom of the bellhousing. Not enough to tear into it :banghead: !! No seriously, mine has slightly more than a seep to the point where I'm thinking about just biting the bullet and fixing it. tmf2 10-01-2005, 01:51 PM Hehe...hate to burst the bubble, but my rear main seal is also leaking as well.... must've been the Taco Bell. No seriously, mine has slightly more than a seep to the point where I'm thinking about just biting the bullet and fixing it. 96 Rodeo 3.2L Mine is also leaking using Mobil 1 5-30 thinking about going to M1 10-30 or Dino to slow it down. Really cannot affort to fix it now. The M1 solved the top end ticking but found a way out of the rear main. Any suggestions ? Any success stories on slowing it down? I live in a cold climate area and need easy starting My rodeo is used mostly stop and go and short distances. Ramblin Fever 10-02-2005, 01:27 AM Thicker oil?? Not quite sure, other then fixing it, on a 96 Rodeo it's probably just age that caught it :eek7: . I shall talk VERY softly though :uhoh: , don't have any oil leaks - hopefully it stays that way. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
