overheating problem!

Ok I read the other tread about the overheating problem, and the head gasket has already been replaced, and nothing is leaking so I've come to a few things it might be. I'm thinking it's either the fan switch or whatever it is because i checked the engine when it was idling(when it was hot and cold) and the fans weren't on. Or the cooling system is losing pressure somewhere, or there is like a air bubble. It was like jerking and stuff earlier today like a messed up idle and then we let off the brakes and it ran fine, then later the gauge was really high so we pulled into a autozone, and the guy replaced the thermostat and said the water pump was ok. (this is my mom's car lol)Then it ran fine on the parkway for a while then we were eating in the car and it was just idling and the gauge was up again thats what makes me think the fans are messed up. Then later we were going up a hill and I told her to keep the rpm's low and we had the heat on but the temp gauge went up with the rpm's but when we drove with low rpms and some air to the rad it was fine it seemed. It's a 1995 civic 4 door lx D15b7? I know this is long but I just wanted to get everything in, thanks in advance and sorry if theres alot of threads like this.

will do, thanks though. I think we're taking it to a mechanic tomorrow to see if he can tell us what's up so I'll reply later tomorrow.

Buy a Haynes Manual $15, Best mod you can buy.
Buy a new Radiotor cap
Refill Radiator
Bleed the Cooling system
Try that!!

not likely a bubble in the system, if it's fine when driving. sitting still and it over heats, but driving and it stays in the mid temp range... fan isn't kicking on. if u have a/c, kick it on and that seperate fan will run, so u'll atleast have one "cooling" fan goin. as for the the cooling fan for the radiator. jumper the fan straight to the battery and see if it even turns on. if not then the fan motor is bad. if it does run, then i'd check the radiator fan relay, and the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) switch. The switch is supposed to close above 91-95 C (196-203 F) it controls the ground for u'r radiator fan relay. The ECU also can control that ground. so if the fan does work when u jumper it, then there's a good chance it's the radiator fan relay. Reason is; since there r two grounding controls for the relay, it's highly unlikely they both go bad at the same time. let us know how it turns out.

I Disagree!!! If you we have 5th generation Civics, If you turn on your AC, ONLY the AC Condenser will be cooled, NOT you Radiator. Infact Idleing with the AC on, and a bad cooling system, will make your car overheat quicker. The first two guys, DO NOT Idle with you AC on, It will NOT help. Trust me, after the turbo instalation, I was overheating like a SOB; Turned out I was running lean, not enough fuel in the engine. But I tried everything!!! I learned SO much about Civic cooling systems. We have a fan for the condensor, and a seperate fan for the radiator, You may need a Cooling fan relay, or a new sensor like the guy above me said.

thanks for the agreance on the likely cause. I do know about the seperate cooling fans and radiators. i had a 94 ex, and my bro has a 93 dx. honestly, looking back i don't really know y i mentioned the a/c part. i guess i was just giving too much info there.

Ya, No Prob. I just wanted to get it straight, these guys seem to be kinda new at cars. And like I said, I overheated many times, and it isn't fun :)

Alright guys thanks so much, I bleed the cooling system and I already had the manual. It seems fine now, but if it continues I'll try the new rad cap and look into the fan, and just to let you know it overheating while idling, and while going up hills. The temp gauge pretty much went up as the rpm's did and went down with the rpm's but seems alright now, and I didn't try the a/c i figured it would put more strain on the engine plus i had the heat on to help cool it off. I was just focusing on not blowing another head gasket at the time haha thanks though!
