Rotor and Pad Replacement?blakeas 03-04-2005, 01:01 PM I have a Honda Accord Couple V6 1999. I am in need of changing the rotors and pads. Is there a walkthrough on how to do it here? Secondy, I am your average daily driver (non racing) and wanted a recommendation on which rotors and pads to buy? 3rd, my handbrake feels really loose - is there anyway to true that up? A walkthrough perhaps on tightening or adjusting? Also instead of new rotors, I have been told i can just get my old rotors turned. How do i do that and where? Thanks in advance for newbie advice! blakeas 03-04-2005, 01:09 PM sorry i meant coupe! davidm5377 03-04-2005, 09:34 PM Not sure on a 99 but on my 97 Accord the rotors are a pain to take off. They say some brake shops can turn the rotors with them still on the car. On the pads I use wagner dustless type to keep the sqealing down. Just changing the pads was fairly easy. Mine had 2 shims next to the pads, I did not reinstall them. You might check around, I just do light maintenance and not a pro. David GLM 03-05-2005, 01:00 AM I replaced the brakes and rotors on my 2001 Accord Sedan a few months ago. I'm not sure how similar the 99 model is to the 01 model. I had a few problems getting the rotors off (had a few screws in there really tight, had to drill them out) and getting the calipers off (stuck bolts). The rotors on the 2001 aren't difficult to get off compared to others, you just have to get the brake calipers out of the way and undo 2 small screws holding the rotor in place and that's it. I was lucky enough to have a air compressor and a air ratchet to aid in getting some of the more stubborn bolts off of parts. It would have been almost impossible to get them off without the air ratchet. I also have the service manual for my car, so there's a step-by-step in there for replacing the rotors. I got some Brembo OE replacement rotors. Look almost the same as the Honda ones, but they're machined pretty well. I purchased them through www.importrp.com. I also purchased ceramic kevlar pads. They produce too much dust, I'm not going to buy them again. Would I do this all again the next time I have to replace the rotors? Yup. -Grant Mojeans69 03-05-2005, 10:23 AM The rotors on the fifth gen is different from the sixth. I have a 6th gen and the only thing holding the rotors on are the calipers and two screws on the rotor, just remove the caliper and those two screws, and your done, but on the fifth gen you have to remove the whole hub and all that crap, much more difficult. The rotor you can get turned a shop but you'll probabky save more in the long run by buying new ones. AS for pads believe it or not the Honda OEM's are really good as for stopping and brake dust goes. blakeas 03-07-2005, 08:14 AM Where would i purchase Honda OEM brakes? And what rotors do you suggest MOJEANS69? Mojeans69 03-07-2005, 08:53 PM Where would i purchase Honda OEM brakes? And what rotors do you suggest MOJEANS69? OEM brake pads from dealer or try ebay, recommend brembo blanks, that's what I have, but I also got some cheap drilled slotted rotors off ebay, to look good in the summer :evillol: They'll only be on for a couple of months then I'm going to switch back to the brembo blanks. blakeas 03-08-2005, 05:01 PM Can anyone give me feedback on this from Ebay? Are these good rotors and pads? I know the rotors are from Brembo but was wondering about the pads. Is this a good deal? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&tc=photo&item=7960199230&category=33564 blakeas 04-05-2005, 12:11 PM Thanks for the advice! I had bought Brembo cross-drilled rotors along with PBR Metal Master High Performance pads for all 4 wheels (front and back). I just recently installed them - i used a pair of needle nose pliers for the back - I went through the normal process, i cleaned the rotors and brake hardware. I installed the rotor, then the pad and tightened the caliper bolts to the right torque. Then i did a little test drive and starting hearing noise - i can back and looked at the rotor and there was scoring on them. So instead of taking them all the way back off - I took it in to a garage to make sure everything was in alignment. They took it off and put it back on and said everything was ok. but now i have a scored rotor. And they said it is just going to have to wear down. but at high speeds now when i try to brake the wheel shakes violently. Is there something else going on? Please help! GLM 04-05-2005, 12:53 PM I'm not sure why it's shaking when you brake at high speeds. I'm just shooting in the dark, but I would try bleeding the brakes. It's a good thing to do anyways if it hasn't been done in a while. I would also double-check your brake calipers and rotors to make sure they're not loose, make sure everything is tightened to the correct torque. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
