I searched the boards for information but didnt find too much to help. Assuming you dont have tow hitch, where is the best tow point on the rear side of a 2002 xterra. I saw this thread....

But i have my spare tire in that spot. Do i need to mount something? If not, wheres the best spot?

I assume the front tow points are the two sort of open circles, because the xterra doesnt have any hooks.

I dont really 4x4, but i go to school in michigan and theres always a ton of snow. Havent got stuck yet, but if i do, i just want to be prepared.

Most Xterras have a front tow hook in the location shown in the second photo in that thread, all SE models do, and it was part of the Sport package on the XE models (w/ fog lights, LSD, couple other things) as well. The little open circles you refer to are NOT tow points, they're tie-down loops. They'll hold up to minor assistance pulls, but are not suited to real recovery duty.

For the rear, it doesn't matter if you have your spare in place or not, that hook setup shown is fine.
Otherwise, I have been using the following setup for years now with no problems:

It's an oversized 5-ton shackle/clevis, it can be ordered from Ace Hardware, or buy it online here:

i just have an XE, and i must not have the package described... so i dont have a tow hook in the front either at all unfortunately.

The passenger side holes located underneath the front end of the vehicle, next to the inside edge of the frame rail have threads in the holes. Purchase the items below to install a hook better than the stock nissan one. If you really want a Nissan one, I've got a couple to sell.

for mounting in the factory front location, you will need to 2 bolts.

For the rear you could buy the skid row frame strengtheners and then mount a hook there. I wouldn't suggest it without as the metal is weak at that location. www.skidplates.com

Was I reading the price for the Skid Row rear bumper and tire carrier wrong?? $463 for the bumper and $588.50 for the tire carrier?? If that correct, that's insane to pay $1051.50 for a rear bumper.

Calmini's bumper is $750 and the Skid-row has more functionality. Bumpers aren't cheap. An ARB front bumper is $650 or so.

I haven't been to their site recently, but I believe the carrier has points for a hi-lift, tire, and jerry cans. It's a reality for NIssan owners in that there aren't a lot of options so prices are set by the manufacturers with little competition.

For what it's worth I would probably buy their bumper if I didn't have one already.

I'm thinking about getting one. I don't need the tire carrier though. My mom is getting a Yakima Load Warrior with the spare tire carrier for my birthday.

That ebay hook is the same thing that Schludwiller posted. The bolts are probably not the right size though.

You could probably fit that one in the other side where the frame isn't threaded, but there are holes. PITA, but you can use dental floss to hold the bolt when you drop it in the frame so you don't lose it inside the frame forever. Easier to just get the right bolts.
