Replacing Front Drive axleJohnWallace 03-02-2005, 10:30 PM I have a 95.5 rodeo V6 auto 4wheel Drive. The passenger side outside boot is ripped. I picked up a rebuilt axle and was going to have it replaced by my local mechanic. He has my Haynes manual, but needed clairfication on removal. He called the Izusu dealer and was told that you can only use Original equipment axles. Anybody heard of this? Can we just replace the outside boot...do they make a two piece boot so we don't have to remove the Axle? The trick to removing the shaft is you must seperate both the upper and lower ball joints to have enough room to get it out. Also, on the inner joint, the outside housing for the inner joint stays in the truck. There is a retaining ring around the inside of the cup you have to remove. To get to it, you ned to remove the inner boot. What I did was carefully cut the clamps and pull it away from the joint and just got a couple extra clamps to reinstall the old inner boot. Or you could just replace the inner boot while its out, but the inner boot doesn't see nearly as much stress as the outer. witherer 03-04-2005, 03:06 PM Use the article provided by amigo-2k. I had the same problem, and it walked me through it with ease. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
