the best method of two tone/ flip paint??

bear with me on this one guys, i have had a long look through the pages of this forum and searched, but i cant find out the best way of making this sort of effect, i know its called different things in different places;

these infact are the colours i want, im making a "burple" rx7-r1 for my gf, and this is the paint job i want, can anyone point me in the direction of a how-to or tutorial, or just give some advice and the best way to do it. any help would be greatly appreciated

I think Tonioseven used some Flip Nail Polish on an MR2. It was pretty much that colour. Just remember that could just be a blue and the lighting is changing the colour, in fact it looks like Mica blue.

kool, im kinda looking for a paint process though. im sure i read something a while ago about how to lay this kind of paint job down. i think it starts with putting the lightest colour down first (which i think is wierd) which would be the tamiya purple, and then putting the darker colour on top of that, in my case tamiya blue. This just doesnt seem right to me

Prismatic paint is not a techinique but it is paint. It is made by some chemical processes and ingredients that have different shades at different angles and light variation.
You can trick your eye into thinking its prismatic from different lighting. But other than that, you need prismatic paint.

yeah thats excellent, thanks mike greatly appreciated. one more quick question though, u know when you see an excellent paint job, and there are sparkles everywhere, like snow flakes, are these produced through a process or a type of paint??

It is the paint that produces that effect. However, it is usually both a process and a paint. Most flip paint jobs require a base coat, then a color/flip coat, then a clearcoat. If you add a primer coat, that is a minimum of 4 individual layers that must be applied.
A lot of people use Duplicolor's color flip paint, which requires the 3 coats I mentioned above. However, most often the flakes look out of proportion to the car, as the flakes are designed to go on something 24 times the size of your model car. There are other options as well, though. Nail polish is one, but be careful with it, as it often goes down 'hot', meaning it can melt/distort the plastic body. A good primer coat is a must if using nail polish, and even then you should test on a scrap piece first. Another option is Alclad's prismatic line-up, which again requires a base coat and clearcoat for the right effect. Alclad is also fairly expensive. Check your local hobby stores for this stuff. It comes in a small glass bottle (1 think it's 1 oz) and goes for about $12CDN ($9US) a bottle. At least up here it does.

DSM thank for mentioning the proccess for applying flip paint. It completely left my mind.
The flakes are produced by the paint. Like Metallic Flake Silver...or Pearl Blue. Flakes are larger (dont usually look to scale but they are glittery), and pearls are smaller (give it depth and glimmer).

If I am not wrong this car is from Zeljko (hrmodeler) and he didn't do any flip-flop painting just regular paint job with silver undercoat.
