First off i have a 98 jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 5.2 V8. I am just trying to improve the performance of the motor. I just recently purchased a Stage II Jet Chip from ebay. I read up on the jet chip website and they recommend a 180 degree thermostat with this chip. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Where is my thermostat located & how do i remove old one and install the new one?? Is this a tough job to do? I don't claim to be a professional mechanic or anything but i have basic knowledge of automotive repair. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

You should buy either a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual from your local autozone, or other car store. These books are about $20 & give decent pics & instructions on how to locate & install almost every part on your Jeep!

I have a '98 4.0 & my thermostat is located on the front of the engine, connected to the top radiator hose.

I'm no professional either, but I'm pretty sure most top radiator hoses connect to the radiator & the thermostat, so just follow the top radiator hose!

it wont run as well with a cooler thermostat and you will have higher emissions

Yes the Thermostat is located on the top of the engine block. Just follow the Upper radiator hose back to the engine it clamps onto the Thermostat housing. there are 2 bolts holding the T-Stat housing onto the engine block. and then lift it and the thermostat is right there, put new Gasket on and torque bolts to 16 Ft/Lbs.

NOTE: It is alot ALOT easier to do this job if you remove the Drive Accesories (Altenator, AC, Idler pulley) and Bracket. for further details email me, Joe dksob81@hotmail.com
