well i am at a standstill... i dont know what to do .. either get a 2004 svt cobra motor for my current car which i am tired of... or sell it and get a 350z roadster.... i have to have a convertibe so a coup is out of the question but what is a plus to having a 350z over a cobra....

I would say get the 350Z because if you get the engine transplant into your V6 Mustang you still have a bad tranny, poor suspension and a car thats quite common. Its all about preference though, i guess. The 350Z has much better handling and chassis in comparison to your stang. Although your stang would be faster in quarter mile. Just my 2 cents

I agree with the transmission comment. Handling and "rarity" of the car is debatable though. These days, anything mass-produced is going to be tough to have something rare. And the Mustangs don't handle too bad when you modify the suspension.

I'd have to agree with G35c Turbo. The only car I couldn't shake in the twistys that I got to run with my 350ZTT was a slightly mod'ed Cobra. On the dig he smoked my donkey.
Not any more, but it cost $$$$$$$$

If you plan on modding the Z w/ FI go for the Z. If you want to leave your ride stock I'd go for the Cobra.

I wouldn't be able to drive a Mustang...you see WAY too many of them. Handling and "rarity" debatable? Hmmm...just ask yourself 2 questions to solve your "rarity" doubts. How many mustangs in one form or another do you see a day? (Hell...how many at one stop light?!) K...now...how many Z cars, including ALL GENERATIONS of them, do you see a WEEK? K...that's done. Now...handling. The Zs are VERY good handling cars. They're very balanced with their IRS as opposed to the mustang's live rear axle.
If you plan on modding the Z w/ FI go for the Z. If you want to leave your ride stock I'd go for the Cobra.
Let me change that a bit...If you want to go straight, get the mustang...if you plan on turning from time to time, get the Z.

longlivetheZ, I live in california and to tell you the truth...I see more 350z then the Mustangs. =/ and I really can't say anything in the Mustangs handling department because I don't know jack about the mustang. =)

I know it kinda depends on where you are as far as what you see goes, but generally speaking, I'd have to say there are 100 mustangs (the 4.6L generation) for ever 1 350Z. Maybe you don't realize it...I dunno...but this especially holds true where I am and it's just so old. I'm so tired of seeing those cars all over the damn place.

Well it was a pretty popular car back in the days and for some reason it still is..."YUCK" but...yea...

The newest one is yet to get on my nerves too badly. I really hope it doesn't turn into a pest like the 4.6L did.

You want a convertible, and you want a car that is fast in the 1/8 mile. You aren't going to buy a Z because your friend ran a slow eighth mile? Why don't you buy an old muscle car or something?
Why don't you get a seperate car for drag racing? Convertibles are much slower than coupes!

No way the 350Z is getting beat by a V6 mustang. No way. The 350s are MUCH faster than a V6 mustang...they're about as fast as a V8 mustang. I've driven both, 2 350s and a couple V6 mustangs...350s are pretty fast once you figure out when to shift and how to do the clutch right...the mustangs are flat out pigs. Either the dude in the 350 couldn't drive or he wasn't trying. Plain and simple...

He has nitrous. Add a supercharger to the Z for a few bucks and you have a pretty fast car.

TURBO...add a TURBO to the Z...twin, to be exact. Sure, the Stillen S/C makes the 350 pretty fast, but God...the Greddy TT kit is NUTS. And it's so much easier to turn the boost up as you see fit with the TT kit...God I love turbos...

well like my signature says i have stuff done to my car... the fastest i have ever seen a stock Z run in a 1/8 mile is a 9.7 .. and it was a 6 speed but anyways ...if i get a z it will have to be turbo but im not that familiar with engine capabilities ... what goes first on a Z ... engine ,tranny, gears, etc.. and at what hp..

I would suggest going with the air and exhaust gases before anything else. Intake, Exhaust, and Exhaust Manifold. The most basic mods. A turbocharger should come after that. and if you want to go all out, fuel, port heads and cylinders, and the like. The same with any car. o0

True. As for what will give out when, I'm not sure. I haven't heard of anyone having any trouble with their setups. I know you can get the Stillen S/C kit that is, from what I hear, bullit proof and gets you a very decent chunk of power to the wheels...AND it has the factory warranty. I still would go the turbo route. I GREATLY prefer turbos over S/Cs.
