Hey all - I just recently had a waterpump and thermostat replacement done on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 6cyl. 4.0 and while in the shop I was told that the rear bearings needed to be replaced. Does anyone know anything about these - what parts are needed or what kits there are - and how much money SHOULD it cost to repair. I am assuming that all the rear bearings need replacement. Concider myself mechanically challenged - so talk slowly and clearly. HAHAH! Thanks!! :screwy: :screwy:

With out digging thru my old work orders i believe it was in the area of $500-$700
I had rear rebuilt 2x on my 99, one was was about $500 the other was about $700 at the dealer. (glad i had extended warranty)

Also had front axle rebuilt once.

GC has never towed or left the paved road.

i think he is referring to his rear axle/wheel bearingS- Can you please clarify which bearings they said needed replacement. Dale is refering to your engine bearing and I am thinking your wheel bearings.

Yes wheel bearings. I just got off the phone with the Jeep Dealer and they told me to replace both sides bearings and sealants - with parts the whole job would be around $300. Does this sound right?

HI, THE PRICE REALLY DOESN'T SEEM BAD. ASK FOR A PRICE SHEET ON THE JOB BEFORE THEY DO IT JUST TO KEEP THEM HONEST. ASK TO SEE THE OLD BEARINGS WHEN THEY'RE DONE. DALE
