Where is the fuel filter located on a 98 Corollabud4660 02-28-2005, 12:16 PM I have a friend that has one and doesnt know where its located on the car. I have not seen the car to look for it. I have tried searching for this info. I have found different answers. Some say it doesnt have one. Only the one in the tank. Others say it has one by the tank. Others say there is one up front somewhere. Anybody have one that has changed it and knows for sure where it is to replace it. Thanks Bud wrenchdad 03-02-2005, 06:43 AM If I remember right its on the firewall almost dead center, just follow your fuel injector line back and you will see it. later wd asn13oy 03-08-2005, 12:25 AM Straight from the Haynes Manual: - 1998 and later models. The fuel filter is integral with the fuel pump module in the fuel tank; there is no routine maintainence interval for fuel filter replacement on these models. - 1997 and earlier models. The canister filter is mounted in a bracket on the firewall near the brake master cylinder. wrenchdad 03-08-2005, 07:02 AM so much for memory! I stand corrected. later wd CalessaSSracer 05-08-2005, 01:44 AM [QUOTE=asn13oy]Straight from the Haynes Manual: - 1998 and later models. Meaning what? dont need to change it? or? asn13oy 05-08-2005, 02:42 AM "there is no routine maintainence interval for fuel filter replacement" = don't worry about it CalessaSSracer 05-08-2005, 06:43 PM GRrrrrrr now my Check engine light came on! 01loadedLE 05-13-2005, 09:40 PM hi just found this group. I cant remember where but Ive seen somewhere that you should change them out every 100k miles. since theyre in the tank it will likely be pricey. edbert 09-15-2005, 12:47 PM It actually isn't pricey and can be done in your driveway with basic tools in less than an hour. Buy the quality pump from Autozone or whoever your favorite parts supplier is. Disconnect the battery. Remove the gas cap(relieves in tank fuel pressure). Remove the back seat (just pull up the front with a quick jerk). There is a panel on the drivers side that you just pry up with a screw driver. Unhook the wiring harness, and unscrew the ten or so bolts. Pull out the unit (there will be some gas in there so have some rags or a bucket to put it in almost immediately). Follow the instructions that should be included in the fuel pump box (although I reused the o-ring since the other didn't fit). Things can be a little difficult to slide back together so I used a very thin coating of basic oil to help everything slide back together. Install the new screen thing as well (you should receive one with the new pump). Stick it back in the car, bolt everything down tight, re-attach the wiring harness, screw the gas cap back in and hook up the battery again. Start the car to make sure it all works. Put a little RTV on the panel after everything checks out and replace the bottom of the back seat. You are done. I'm not a mechanic, but I just did this a few months ago. Let me know if you have any other questions. edbert 09-15-2005, 12:47 PM Oh yeah, and mine finally died at about 120K miles, which is why I replaced it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
