Hello

I have a 93 GC limited, 5.2L.
The problem I am having is engine stalling (sputtering out).
This is a very strange problem and I will try to explain to the best of my knowledge.

If the vehicle sits for a while (20 min) and I restart it. It runs fine. No problems.

If I turn the key off and try to restart it. The engine will fire and slowly sputter and die out. Like it is running out of fuel.

If I let it sit for the 20 min it will start again and run fine, drive fine with out any problems until I turn it off.

I have done a tune up a couple of week ago (air filter, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, pcv) and it ran fine up until today.

This one has me puzzled

If anyone has any suggestions would be great

Thanks for your time

Dave

- Is this after it stalls, or is this at any time after driving?

Thanks for you reply

After the Jeep stalls out. I let it sit for the 15-20 min and it restarts and runs fine, as long as I don't shut it off.
My wife had the problem a the shopping mall, while she called me the vehicle sat for about 15 min. She tried it again and it fired without any problem. She then drove about 20 miles home. When at home she shut the motor off and tried to restart it. Once again it stalled out and had no throttle response.

Very strange

ok, sounds like your Fuel Pump is bad, they tend to overheat and shutdown when they go bad. Ussually happens when below 1/2 tank of gas. The ignition coil has ebeen known to do the same thing when they go bad (overheat/shutdown).

I wish I had a 'for sure' answer for you. all I can recommend is next time it stalls, turn the key to the 'ON' position and listen for the fuel pump to kick on (whirring sound) u may have to remove the gas cap and hold your ear close to the hole to hear it. If it doesn't turn on the the Fuel Pump is bad.

It was the fuel pump after all. Not cheap either. about $400 Cdn. + labour.

Thanks
