Q about hatch shocks and MCtetraruby300 02-25-2005, 10:24 PM Hey there, The hatch "shocks" for my hatch on my '85 Civic are giving out. They only hold the hatch up if they're warm. Do any of you know where to find replacements, economical? I believe my MC is on the way out. The brake pedal, on occassion, sinks to the floor. How bad is to swap these out? Is it normal to have to swap the booster at the same time? TIA Figori 02-26-2005, 12:40 AM They sell the struts on E-bay... Just search for an 85 civic... Or even the CRX... I think they are all the same. Oh, and is there any brake fluid puddling around one of your back tires? Might want to take your rear drums off and make sure you don't need to replace any of your wheel cylinder seals.. I had this same problem, and it turned out that one of the seals on the read drivers side had popped off and gunked up. Hope this helps. :D lxndr 02-27-2005, 10:31 PM If the problem is the MC, you won't need to replace the booster. cvcc_wagon 02-27-2005, 10:37 PM who needs a brake booster:naughty: lxndr 02-27-2005, 10:54 PM who needs a brake booster:naughty: Yeah, they're over rated anyway. How's that one buff leg Andrew? cvcc_wagon 02-27-2005, 11:54 PM it's actually not that bad. i have to push a little harder but i still have the same braking power as before. i often just down shift at higher revs to stop quickly. works pretty good with the slightly raised compression tetraruby300 03-06-2005, 03:17 AM Ebay seems to sell every year but mine ('84-85) for the hatch "shocks" CVCC are you saying you went manual? Is there such a MC that exists for no brake booster? My old F100 has manual brakes and I really don't mind the extra effort, and for simplicity sake, I'd rather go that route. Yet, I'm sketchy in modiying my little civic. It has been so loyal to me. My rear cylinders are in excellent shape. I just replaced them six months ago. No fluid loss. The reason I ask about the MC is that if one goes (either the MC or the booster) the other is sure to follow - from experience on old Ford trucks. Are Hondas the same? cvcc_wagon 03-06-2005, 03:12 PM CVCC are you saying you went manual? Is there such a MC that exists for no brake booster? It has been so loyal to me. i removed the booster to make room for my sidedraft webers (well to make room for the filter actually, the carbs fit...barely) in my 83 i had to make an adapter plate because the bolt pattern on the firewall side of the booster is different then the bolt pattern of the MC. in 3G's and 1G CRX's the booster bracket is angled so all you have to do is bolt the MC to the fire wall. here (http://www.redpepperracing.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13526&hl=brake+booster) is a thread on rpr.com about this that helped me out. here are a before and after pic of my engine bay with and without the brake booster. http://www.redpepperracing.com/gallery/albums/after_swap/aac.sized.jpg http://www.redpepperracing.com/gallery/albums/after_swap/aad.sized.jpg vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
