1995 4.3L won't startporker132000 02-25-2005, 07:34 PM I have a 1995 4.3L full-size truck. It just decided not to start for the first time ever. (232,000 miles) There is an error code stored, DTC 35 which is Idle Air Control. It has been setting intermittently for several weeks now. Where should I start to see about getting it running? I just find it hard to believe that the idle air control, if failed, would prevent starting. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!! stratman440 02-25-2005, 09:34 PM There are a few things you can try to get the truck started. First, check for spark. Ground a spark plug on the block and have a buddy crank her over. If you have spark, and you can see fuel flowing from the injectors, check the IAC. Cycle the key for 30 seconds on and off, and the try starting it. If that does not work, I believe you can start the truck w/out the IAC by doing the same process and then disconnecting it. I've got a 94 4.3 with 200,000 and my IAC just finally had to be replaced. Reply back with what you found amac209 02-25-2005, 11:04 PM does the fuel pump run?? it should buzz for a few seconds when the key is turned on. check all the fuses too. almost every chevy no start i've seen was either caused by the fuel pump or distributor cap& rotor. if there is any moisture, carbon tracking or cracks in the cap it probably won't start. sometimes the ignition module will fail too. remember you need fuel, spark and compression for an engine to run. figure out whats missing then find out why. cousincletus 02-26-2005, 08:41 AM Agree with other replies. Also see if it starts and runs with a little shot of ether. If it does, there's a good chance your coolant temp sensor is bad. Do the obvious like change the fuel filter and listen for the fuel pump when you first turn on the ign. porker132000 02-26-2005, 03:36 PM Thanks!! It was the distributor cap and rotor button! I can't hear the fuel pump, but the relay was apparently bad also. I CAN hear the new relay click, where the old one didn't. Cap and rotor button fixed it, though. IAC just cannot make it not start. Thanks again for all your help. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
